<travmurav[m]>
anonymix007: yes, this is what I thought of and I guess if this didn't help this is... very weird
<travmurav[m]>
since this would mean that something inside firmware is horribly broken...
<travmurav[m]>
anonymix007: what if you also remove the call to priv_func?
<travmurav[m]>
even tho the code there doesn't seem to matter too much...
<travmurav[m]>
anonymix007: do you have efi=novamap?

Well, it actually kind of behaves differently. Sometimes it just fails in the same way as before, sometimes it just turns off, but basically never boots.

<travmurav[m]>
anonymix007: hm I had a funny thought
<travmurav[m]>
the thing that boots, is UKI, right? and that doesn't boot is plain linux with passed in initramfs?
<travmurav[m]>
what if you just boot linux and don't pass any initramfs to it?
<travmurav[m]>
dunno if uki-stub skips the real efistub but if it does, that might be interesting to check
hightower3 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<travmurav[m]>
as in, this is a far shot but I wonder if firmware tries to detect "booting linux" via presence of i.e. initramfs configuration table and tries to do something cleverly untested

oh can I ask the t14s owners - how's the trackpad, compared to macbooks and x13s and x1 carbon?
chrisl has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<steev>
probably the same model as the x13s
<\[m]>
ugh - whyyyy
<steev>
what's wrong with the trackpad on the x13s?
<\[m]>
when I had a t480 or something I replaced it with x1 carbon one - huge difference
<\[m]>
especially the touch was colder, I think it's a plastic versus glass surface
<steev>
not sure what you mean by colder
<\[m]>
it feels clunky, though I sold it to someone who said that my trackpad was worse than the other 2 x13s he owned
<\[m]>
it might be in my head but in my perception it glides better when it's glass and it feels colder
<craftyguy>
trackpoint ftw :P

\: it feels better than on my old Asus ROG Flow X16 (2022), can't say anything about macbooks or x1 carbon though. I already got used to it and it was uncomfortable to switch back to Asus.
<anonymix007[m]>
Buttons on top feel much better than pressing the touchpad itself though. Trackpoint is an interesting experience as well.
<steev>
i can't say i've ever hit the buttons
<steev>
at least not when just testing that they actually work

X13s bisect result #2: local tree bug again. So, nothing for upstream, just my camcc experiments going really bad on the X13s. All three symptoms can be traced back to this. 🤷♂️

Do I need to plug my x13s into a dock first in order to get an external display output to work? If so, what doc should I buy? If not, does anyone have a cable they recommend because the one I bought isn't working.
<JensGlathe[m]>
I tested against a display with type-c port. Wouldn't say it does work reliably, but it does. Need to check again.

I get some nasty gpu errors when trying to start blender on X1E, has anyone encountered issues like this?
<kuruczgy[m]>
Are the relevant maintainers aware of the issue? (And is there perhaps a workaround, do we know what the issue is?)
<robclark>
kuruczgy[m]: I was not
<robclark>
but fwiw, FD_MESA_DEBUG=sysmem seems to avoid it
<robclark>
(although even without that it seems harmless AFAICT... but I also don't know how to drive blender so just played with it for a few seconds)
