<zdykstra> How's the Surface 7 right now? Useable with a few things missing, or completely unstable?

<ruen> Ho,
<ruen> Hi, I installed the Ubuntu image from that one Google Drive folder on my Lenovo Slim 7x and it's really really cool even with the issues it has.
<ruen> I'm just wondering if there's a way to profile or find out why some games don't work very well? Like I tried Sonic Adventure 2 and that game seems to be super slow regardless of resolution and system monitor shows the CPU being used a whole bunch and then a Hat in Time runs pretty well at low 1080p settings but it stutters every 4 seconds or so regardless of quality also

<JensGlathe[m]> The image is a bring up aid... there is quite some work (imo) to do afterwards. Didn't come around to document the more important steps.... (full message at <https://matrix.org/oftc/media/v1/media/download/AYxiAwpJG53Ic9MJ9PY2raeu8nvXfYIhVC-BUdSSgQ7wMw4l0dzLrkr-Cz-6h26FEyJptsP4Jg4STPDsr49eYXJCeSg3QR5QAG1hdHJpeC5vcmcvUXZGdmZQRGxaTmhmTnZna2tsZ3hMc3F1>)
<JensGlathe[m]> This should give you GPU acceleration among other things.

<JensGlathe[m]> and yes, there's a new kernel available on GD too, but don't know of the state of the dtb
<ruen> Oh neat, I only imported the GPU firmware .
<ruen> But thank you I'll try doing the other things you listed

<macc24> i didn't know lenovo was into making custom chips
<tobhe_> macc24: do you know what it does?
tobhe_ is now known as tobhe
<macc24> i have no clue
<macc24> found it on otherwise quite empty backside of slim 7x's motherboard
<macc24> that chip in the other corner is it8987vg
<kuruczgy[m]> macc24: did you manage to locate the hall sensor? Any clues around it? (E.g. visible traces connecting it to something interesting)
ruen has joined #aarch64-laptops
<ruen> I think the chip is for Lenovo's AI battery boosting thing. They advertise it on other models, but I thought it was handled by the NPU this time

<macc24> i meant more as in "small" than "reflecty"
<steveej[m]> as a reminder and for others' info, this is when switching from 6.11.0 -> 6.12-rc2) seems to be a change in defaults for the 6.12 series. maybe you can enable these in your defconfig
<macc24> it was fine for me, not sure why would the kernel install compressed modules if the option wasn't enabld
<steveej[m]> no idea. on nixos i ended up with uncompressed kernel modules and initrd couldn't load them for whatever reason
<kuruczgy[m]> Yes, NixOS expects to use compressed kernel modules
<steev> seems kinda broken if not compressing kernels breaks booting
<kuruczgy[m]> Well the issue was that NixOS enables MODULE_COMPRESS_XZ, so it rightfully expexted modules to be compressed. This changed with 6.12-rc1, as now MODULE_COMPRESS_ALL is also needed.
<macc24> okay so i didn't find any pads with i2c
<macc24> s/i2c/i2c6/
<macc24> s/i2c/i2c6 :(/
* macc24 is tempted to give up
<JosDehaes[m]> OMG, got UCM working on yoga slim 7x!
<macc24> are all speakers working?
<JosDehaes[m]> not yet, it does in the test script, but the UCM file only enables left channel for now, trying to figure out
<JosDehaes[m]> but I WAS able to get GNOME to see the card, and plays audio in youtube
<JosDehaes[m]> something must be very off, as the front channels are coming out of the left side and the rear out of the right 😅
<JosDehaes[m]> not sure where the problem is, in TPLG or UCM 🤔
<macc24> i'd guess tplg
<JosDehaes[m]> and after a reboot, can't get it to work anymore 😅
