great, we got the new version of passt in gentoo, but the ebuild does not build the version it claims to, and the version where the author claims to have fixed the bug that breaks krun does not seem to do that
<chadmed_>
lmfao incredible
<chaos_princess>
doesn't seem like it is a gentoo screwup (maybe inattentiveness), cause upstream is what published the wrong commit in the tarball

<psykose>
i tried sending a one line fix to passt once and i couldn't even find the mailing list archives and the git clone of the repo just hung forever
<psykose>
miserable ass project
<psykose>
why can't they put it on pagure like every other redhat thing
<chaos_princess>
oh, they are using a mailing list, not a forge?
<psykose>
i like the 3 second animation for hovering a url
<chaos_princess>
mandatory "i am a 90s hacker" theme
<psykose>
fitting
<chadmed_>
hahahahah the damn matrix terminal theme
* chadmed_
stares nervously at the amber glow konsole theme open on his other monitor
<chadmed_>
its jank all the way down with this stack isnt it
<chadmed_>
at least fex itself Just Works(tm)
<chaos_princess>
solarized dark > else :P
<chadmed_>
i love radical for my text editors but i seem to have developed vertical astigmatism and have been longsighted forever and anything other than my comfy amber terminal theme just sears my eyeballs :(

great new sommelier bug just dropped: the host compositor doing dpms off takes down sommelier
<psykose>
every few years i do a 'turn off computer monitor on idle' and every time i find multiple bugs where stuff breaks, so amazing :D
<chaos_princess>
oh, so _that's_ why vms do not survive sleep
<chadmed_>
idk what youve got cooking but its gotta be better than this
<chadmed_>
fixed 1280x720 ass no-server-side-decorations ass taking down my vms when my monitor turns off ass
<chaos_princess>
well, when it works, it works better than sommelier (i have sane dpi scaling and window decorations), but sometimes it just breaks because i haven't implemented some obscure feature of x11 protocol
<chaos_princess>
like, apparently, there is an extension that allows messages longer than 4*2^16 bytes, and it is implemented by setting the length field to zero
<chadmed_>
brainfart: cant transparently just forward an x11 socket to the host's xwayland or something?
<chaos_princess>
naturally, up until yesterday, if a client sent that message, it got stuck in a loop
<chaos_princess>
it is _almost_ that, except i need to do surgery on certain messages
<chadmed_>
they did surgery on a message buffer
<psykose>
grapes were a slippery slope
<chaos_princess>
oh, and also i have a bug where steam popups start rendering as black until you hover over actual popup contents
Dan___ has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<chaos_princess>
no idea why, maybe some sync nonsense, but idk?
<chadmed_>
if they render where theyre supposed to and not just at (width/2, height/2) thats good enough for me :p
<psykose>
i've seen that just on normal xwayland in multiple compositors lol, the steam popup is so cursed
<chaos_princess>
they are rendering where they should, they are just dont render on the first try, and have to be re-rendering until actual contents
<chadmed_>
win32 steam on macos had the same problem a while ago *shrug*
<chaos_princess>
psykose: i have the same bug in jetbrains ides that run on host, (java, so x11 only) so, maybe it is just broken everywhere? idk
<psykose>
beats me
<psykose>
steam wayland wen
<chaos_princess>
you do not want wayland with this stack tbh :P
<chadmed_>
i wish they would just rewrite steam as a qt app or something, this steamwebhelper stuff is just absolutely fucked even on windows and has been since they first "facelifted" steam
<psykose>
>:)
<psykose>
which facelift do ya mean
<chaos_princess>
it is $CURRENT_YEAR, every app is electron now
<psykose>
the 2023 one or the like 2011 one
<chaos_princess>
though steam is not even proper electron
<chadmed_>
when they "transitioned" from steamui.{dll,so,dylib} to CEF
<psykose>
aha yea the ancient one
<chadmed_>
i wanna say like... 2015?
<chaos_princess>
proper electron would be an improvement
<psykose>
on god
<chadmed_>
they still fall back on steamui.{dll,so,dylib} if steamwebhelper dies and i get a lil kick of nostalgia
<chadmed_>
would be funnier if it rendered the original goldsrc lurid green

turns out it is two bugs in one, with the second one being that i have systemd-resolved installed, and dhcpcd tries to use it to configure dns inside in the vm and fails

chaos_princess: fwiw, jetbrains EAPs have wayland builds now, no clue of the arm64 variants, haven't investigated until I can have them non-fuzzy by not using fractional in gnome
<chaos_princess>
rustrover does not have an eap yet iirc
<chaos_princess>
and i am using integer scaling iirc
<leio>
in GNOME it's about experimental feature "“scale-monitor-framebuffer” — makes mutter default to layout logical monitors in a logical pixel coordinate space, while scaling monitor framebuffers instead of window content, to manage HiDPI monitors. Does not require a restart." is enabled or not, if it's fuzzy or not, it's not exactly a "support fractional scaling" thing, but it enables it
<leio>
but I think in 46 or 47 it might be non-fuzzy regardless
<leio>
gtk core devs say it being enabled has otherwise much less problems
