hey gang! Embedded Linux dev here. I'm interesting in helping to contribute. I've seen some of the priority missing pieces on the contribute page and started to look into some documentation. However, I don't have a macbook, are there any recommendations from anyone on which model would be most useful for contributions and where to potentially source one cheap?

toastbucket: m2/m2 pro/m2 max devices are generally going to be your best bet
<chadmed_>
for getting them cheap whatever secondhand markets are available in your locale will suffice but be careful that the devices arent stolen

yes good point, I've poked around in some secondhand marketplaces in my area and definitely seen some suspicious ones. So from what you've said, it would be preferred to get m2-based hardware over m1?
<quaff>
I mean, I personally have an m1 macbook pro, and would like to push that, but I am not sure what the usage stats are XD

quaff: most of the SIP blocks are shared and the m1-specific stuff is essentially all done
<chadmed_>
really most of everything is done at this point
<chadmed_>
but yes toastbucket get yourself something m2 based. the application cores are a decent bit faster and the devices are a little nicer
<quaff>
I guess the only thing remaining is external monitors over usb-c, I suppose that's not something that's chipset specific, right?
<chadmed_>
the macbook air redesign that came with the m2 is well worth it
<chadmed_>
quaff: there might be soc specific quirks but we have enough folks with m1 hardware who can deal with that. the actual PHYs and controllers and such are all shared across soc families
<chadmed_>
until you get to M3 but thats a problem for later
<toastbucket>
ah ok so there is not a significant need for help at this point? If I'm interested why not but there's not serious outstanding issues?

thanks! I'll look into it and see if I can find HW in a price bracket I can afford. If I can, I'll see where I can jump in
