This is NOT a "M4 when."
<thefossguy>
But I do have an M4 Mac Mini arriving soon. I assume initial support will take a few months. During that time, I intend to use Linux in a guest VM.
<thefossguy>
My question is, how is the hardware acceleration with qemu on macOS?
<thefossguy>
Also if 3d hardware acceleration is possible/works on a macOS host.
<Halian>
The announcement of the M4 Mini gave me buyer's remorse ᴡʀᴛ my M1 ᴍʙᴀ :P
<thefossguy>
Don't worry, I didn't get the best bang for buck config XD

Can't believe a 32/512 config is just as much as two 16/256 ones :(

<chadmed>
thefossguy: you need to use a vmm that uses hypervisor.framework to get the paravirtualised hardware, but that is only supported for macos guests
<chadmed>
there is no hardware paravirt for linux guests
<Halian>
Oof
<chadmed>
why would there be? apple has no linux drivers for anything and we officially dont exist :p

though kind of a f-u to devs that virtualization doesn't even work for docker...

j`ey docker itself as a desktop app, yes, but the docker container doesn't have any gpu access. afaik it's not a technical impossibility, but there's no implementation or drivers or whatever else is needed
<fl0_id>
jannau oh thanks, gonna try this, didn't know about that part. In any case, all who want to use docker-docker or apples virtualization framework are out of luck right?
