Apple has some really funky extensions where they seed the algorithm on a per-EL basis, which we of course don't support. It appears that by some magic (probably thanks to what m1n1 does), this feature is disabled.

I'm trying to use the asahi-fedora-usb repo to install on a usb thumb drive. U-boot doesn't seem to recognize it. I know it's not the USB because I was able to get u-boot to recognize it with the ubuntu-asahi project (however it wouldn't boot in this case)

what do you mean with u-boot doesn't recognize it? The usb on my M1 is shaky so it sometimes takes 8 tries to boot from usb

When I go to the bootmenu, all I see is nvme0 nvme1 nvme2, and no usb's show up. I then go back and try "usb reset" a few times, and I still don't see any storage devices.

I think it might be some issue with the EFI mount created by asahi-fedora-usb. Or maybe some change to the grub config. Or maybe I just need to run "usb reset" a few more times like @LarstiQ was saying

opticron yeah sure. as supposedly resizing is easy, biggest reason is probably having a small disk. I kinda hate myself a little bit for paying apples ssd premium, but I will probably unhate myself once there is m3 support, as I know I have enough internal space

JamesB192 yes there was. more than once. but that's like relying on magic. very few people can do that, and if you have the wrong chips or misconfigure them, bad to be you. (and they prob cost at least as much as a normal ssd, so not like cheap cheap either)
