<Jeremy_Rand_Talos>
This is probably a dumb question, but does apitrace link statically to Mesa by default on GNU/Linux?
<Jeremy_Rand_Talos>
Other OpenGL applications show swrast_dri.so in /proc/$PID/maps, but "apitrace replay" doesn't, so it's not obvious to me how apitrace is calling out to LLVMpipe on my system.
<airlied>
apitrace replay might call another app
<airlied>
glretrace maybe
<Jeremy_Rand_Talos>
airlied, ah, ok, that would make sense. Will check that now...
<Jeremy_Rand_Talos>
airlied, bingo, it's glretrace that pulls in LLVMpipe, thanks

<dolphin>
danvet, airlied: drm-intel-gt-next PR sent, looking forward to merge in order to do backmerge to unblock some patches (after I figure out who asked for the backmerge)
<danvet>
dolphin, so should I do it this morning so you're unblocked or wait for airlied?
<dolphin>
can wait, it's not that urgent
<dolphin>
but this week would be great
* airlied
had it to today but got distracted, will put it as top for tomorrow morning
<dolphin>
ok, thanks, I will try to hunt down who requested the backmerge

<cmarcelo>
jenatali: matrix bridge?
<jenatali>
Yep
<cmarcelo>
:(
<cmarcelo>
got bitten by this twice in the past, then just gave up
<cmarcelo>
was hoping bridging would get better so I could come back
<jenatali>
Bridging on freenode was great, the bridge could be configured to remember a password and would automatically auth with NickServ on connection
<jenatali>
Bridging on oftc is annoying, any time there's a disconnect I have to manually re-auth otherwise messages silently get dropped
<jenatali>
Still better than not being bridged though for me. I like having access on e.g. a phone

with amdgpu, `eglChooseConfig` finds a config
<Mis012[m]>
with both freedreno and llvmpipe, it doesn't find a config

<Mis012[m]>
is it possible that it's hinging on the RGB332, which afaict is supposed to mean "that or better" here
<HdkR>
It's also possible that asking for 8x MSAA isn't working since Adreno doesn't support >4
<Mis012[m]>
does llvmpipe also not support 8x?
<HdkR>
and llvmpipe only supports 1x and 4x
<Mis012[m]>
right, that sounds like it could be the issue
<Mis012[m]>
if I make an interposer function which cuts it to 4x, is it possible that the application calling eglChooseConfig will break?
<HdkR>
maybe!
<Mis012[m]>
clearly my example application shouldn't be calling `SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_MULTISAMPLESAMPLES, 8);`
<Mis012[m]>
but I assume real applications could request it too?
<HdkR>
yea, most games provide a graphics configuration option and test device limits though
<Mis012[m]>
well, this if for android
<HdkR>
Most games don't ship MSAA, it's too costly :)
<Mis012[m]>
weird that it worked on low end mali android device but doesn't work with freedreno on 7c
<Mis012[m]>
fwiw pretty sure I copied it from some example back then, which means that at least one game developer somewhere might have done the same :P
JohnnyonFlame has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<HdkR>
Some Mali hardware actually does support 8xMSAA
<Mis012[m]>
it's a low end spreadtrum though xD
<HdkR>
Just like Nvidia offering 64xAA on lowest end Quadro, you're not really expected to use it at speed
<Mis012[m]>
well, thanks for help, let's try to recompile my old code that I intelligently decided to use as an example
<HdkR>
Also games /really/ should query the hardware feature before using
<anarsoul>
HdkR: Mali4x0 supports 16x, but we expose only 4x in lima driver
<HdkR>
anarsoul: That's madness!
rasterman has quit [Quit: Gettin' stinky!]
<anarsoul>
HdkR: 4x has no performance cost if you do resolves in the tile buffer (i.e. if you use GL_EXT_multisampled_render_to_texture)
danvet has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<HdkR>
anarsoul: I mean Utgard supporting 16x is madness. I do love that 4x is very little perf hit on tilers :D
<anarsoul>
I guess it was easy to implement and looks good in marketing papers
