<marc|gonzalez> srinik: bamse: are you aware of any effort (even incomplete) to mainline sound/audio support for msm8998/apq8098 ?

<aka_[m]> marc|gonzalez: it shouldn't be much different to currently supported socs
<aka_[m]> What kind of codecs your device use?
<aka_[m]> On 660 it can use codec from pmi or wcd9335 for analog frontend
<phh> if i'm not mistaken that's "custom" (as in non-qualcomm) codecs over I2S for both input and output
<aka_[m]> Well
<aka_[m]> On older socs
<aka_[m]> Analog front-end is done via pm codec and digital front-end(connected to mi2s) is done via custom codecs like tas/tfa
<phh> (also the output is 3.3 but there is a custom adsp module that converts 5.1 to 3.3. let's say it's a problem for later)
<marc|gonzalez> aka_[m]: do you suggest to look at msm8996 or sdm660 or sdm845?

<phh> and there is HDMI (both output and input for ARC)
<marc|gonzalez> rawoul just mentioned that, as far as HDMI audio is concerned, sdm660 & sdm845 would be no help as qcom dropped support for that after 8998.

<aka_[m]> <marc|gonzalez> "aka_: do you suggest to look..." <- it all depends on specific board setup
<aka_[m]> 8996 tends to ship with wcd9335 connected over slimbus
<aka_[m]> cheaper socs like 8953 mostly use pm codec but also can use slimbus
<aka_[m]> if your device uses pm codec there is some work done on 660/670
<aka_[m]> not sure if it works tho
<aka_[m]> qcom,model = "msm8998-tavil-snd-card";... (full message at <https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/YLGvRQkVEaowDSKuHMYLjUVO>)
<aka_[m]> tasha is wcd9335 setup
<marc|gonzalez> aka_[m]: our board doesn't use slimbus or wcd9335 or wsaXX :)
<aka_[m]> is there ds sauce for it?
<marc|gonzalez> ds sauce = DT source? :)
<aka_[m]> downstream source
<marc|gonzalez> Yeah it's in one of the qcom trees, lemme find a link
<aka_[m]> uh tavil seems to be not pm one but atleast have source
