<tokyovigilante> macromorgan: Raqbit: vexing... dumb question, i assume you have a kernel for it to load?
<tokyovigilante> also earlycon and earlyprintk in your boot command
<tokyovigilante> i built a boot.scr scriots for both TFTP and SD boot
<tokyovigilante> the only time I was getting stuck at "Trying to boot from FEL"
<tokyovigilante> was when the kernel was actually too early to print anything

<tokyovigilante> will boot from an kernel image named "Image" from SD1 partition 3, using the u-boot devicetree
<tokyovigilante> I'm using that on my SD card with u-boot over FEL-boot, just add earlycon to the bootargs

<tokyovigilante> that's a u-boot binary which boots to a command-prompt when written to an SD card as follows:
<tokyovigilante> sudo dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/sda bs=1k seek=256
<tokyovigilante> (with the 256K offset patch)
<tokyovigilante> built from my RG35XX-upstream u-boot branch and the -h defconfig, should all be there now
<tokyovigilante> (clearly in no state to actually be upstreamed yet but all working for me)
<tokyovigilante> those scripts just need to be built with mkimage in the u-boot tools, so make tools-only then
<tokyovigilante> ../u-boot/tools/mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d boot.cmd boot.scr

<tokyovigilante> sorry if that's all telling you to suck eggs, but unsure why else you're stuck at the u-boot handoff

<tokyovigilante> sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1k seek=256 count=780
<tokyovigilante> will then scrub u-boot off the card if you wanted to go back to FEL
<Raqbit> tokyovigilante: I made the assumption that uboot would be logging even in the case that there's nothing to boot - perhaps that is my mistake
<Raqbit> logging over UART, that is
<Raqbit> I'm new to all this as you might have been able to tell :)

<macromorgan> hmm... I'll have to go back again and look some more. I took your patches on top of mainline U-Boot and applied them on master yesterday. I'm getting stuck on the point where U-Boot tries to jump from SPL to A-TF. I remember having this issue before, but forget the fix now.
<macromorgan> I purposefully nuked my tree to get the latest patches in place and also so I could precisely remember the build steps/patches this time
<macromorgan> I stashed the old work, but sadly forgot to stash my .config file

<Raqbit> Ah, with your u-boot binary flashed to an SD card I do manage to make it to a u-boot prompt: https://gist.github.com/raqbit/165eaf49c739a28b604101f955781c70?permalink_comment_id=5045864#gistcomment-5045864
<Raqbit> tokyovigilante: Ah, I got my own stuff to boot via the SD card (with the 256-patch), so I guess it just won't boot via FEL
<macromorgan> I think it might be my A-TF that's failing actually
