rmilecki, The linksys firmware for the bcm4908 chip uses the standardized bcm4908img format with the linksys footer added ( see scripts/linksys-image.sh in the openwrt root for format details ).

rmilecki, would it be possible to build a test image for the linksys ea9500v2 using the cferam pull request on the github repo?
<rmilecki>
dandel: bcm63xx-cfe is just a package, edit its Makefile to point your repo and branch
<rmilecki>
let me check that pull req
<rmilecki>
dandel: according to wiki and Linksys firmwares EA9500 V2 == EA9500S
<rmilecki>
dandel: so i'd suggest using EA9500 V2 as base as that was earlier hw I think
<Dandel>
Both devices use the same firmware. I know there is a few people who will test the firmware on the forum if a test image is made.

i believe it makes sense to use the first device as base and then extend that for newer ones if needed
<Dandel>
I see no issues with that change. Although I really need to find out what the cfe log says ( there was someone on the forum offerring to get it but has not posted back yet).

dandel: no, Broadcom doesn't put any device specific info in their DTS / DTB files
<rmilecki>
dandel: they have boardparams.c for that stuff
<rmilecki>
dandel: don't sue me for cancer after checking that file syntax
<Dandel>
I see... I was just checking since the only real thing the gpio is used for is LED stuff, and at most that is just an On and off on top.
<rmilecki>
dandel: it should be much easier to just find GPIOs manually than reading that file
<Dandel>
The device only has two user accessible buttons without opening it up... The reset and the power switch.

rsalvaterra: oh :)
<slh64>
rsalvaterra: ar5008 was available as cheap pci and mini-pci wlan cards (I have one in a PC running Debian/ kernel 5.12)
<rmilecki>
rsalvaterra: if you need it, I can get & ship you V3.1
<rsalvaterra>
slh64: I got two of them, couldn't get them to work! They're Apple-branded, and they probably rely on an external EEPROM! Which card do you have?
<slh64>
on routers/ APs the rather similat ar9102/ ar9103 was more common
<rmilecki>
dandel: bcm63xx-cfe update pushed
<rsalvaterra>
slh64: AR91xx are AR9001, IIRC… I need to test AR5008. :/
<slh64>

<rsalvaterra>

<slh64>

<rsalvaterra>
And it's an easy card to find too! :)
<slh64>
there was also a 2x2 variant, more common wn841n perhaps? (I'm on my phone and limited in typing/ searching)
<rsalvaterra>
Even on olx.pt, yay!
<Dandel>
rmilecki, thanks, and just as a heads up, The in-firmware identifier for linksys signature of the device is "EA9500v2"
<slh64>
also as mini-pci, for a time I was strongly considering to retrofit my asus wl-500gpv1 (bcm47xx) with one, replacing its bcm4318 card - but I went with the cheaper ath5k/ ar5212 card instead (and a tl-wr941ndv2 router)
<slh64>
(I wasn't sure enough if the bcm4704 would have beren fast enough to service the 802.11n/ ath9k card, so I took what I knew to be working, ath5k)
<rmilecki>
slh64: was ath5k working fine? i never realized if that driver has reached a proper maturity & stability?
<PaulFertser>
I use it on my old laptop, works nicely.
<PaulFertser>
Can't remember exact chipset atm.
<slh64>
rmilecki: Still use it in two vintage x86 systems, works nicely. it started a little bumpy, but was working very well past kernel 2.6.28
<rmilecki>
nice to know
