Is it FLOSS?
<emersion>
yes -- but it's all in JS
<emersion>
i had a purely static replacement, i should host it somewhere
<emersion>
wanted to use it for wayland-protocols, but the bikeshedding wasn't worth it
<pq>
I really do not want to remove the mention of the adoption website from the governance doc, because I want a constant painful reminder that we really need it.
<emersion>
let's stop pretending it will happen magically…
<pq>
no.
<pq>
it will magically happen one day if it keeps being reminded of
<emersion>
lol
* emersion
has given up on this pipe dream
<pq>
yeah, I've noticed. Too bad.
<pq>
being a constant pain is how stuff migrates upwards in priority lists and eventually gets done, or someone new appears and takes it on which is also helped if there are notes around that stuff would be nice
<emersion>
so far it's been 100% pain and 100% time lost
<emersion>
0% benefit
<pq>
jadahl, unfortunately, without the idea of the adoption website, it would have been much harder to agree on wayland-protocols.
<pq>
emersion, everything always is until it starts being used.
<emersion>
the frustration level for wayland-protocols is just too high in general
<emersion>
look at this graveyward in the merge request list
<emersion>
*graveyard
<pq>
yup
<emersion>
the list of success stories is very short
<emersion>
there are still 0 ext- protocols
<pq>
I can't say I'm surprised.
<pq>
why did no ext protocol land? I thought the criteria for those were very low.
<emersion>
i think for many protocols, it's just easier to keep using the vendored ones
<pq>
not even objections could stop ext protocols from landing
<emersion>
for xdg-activation, i think a pain point was a very long back-and-forth between submitter and reviewer -- among other things, because it was the submitter's first protocol
<emersion>
we have many idioms and unwritten rules
<pq>
that's more understandable, and also it's xdg so different rules
<pq>
if it's easier to maintain extension in various projects then maybe se should have a web site linking to all those... oh
