<daniels> emersion: yep, I probably won’t be near my laptop today (on holiday this week), but it’s all R-b to merge from me, only hitch I guess is that Mesa and Weston need a new w-p release to rebuild their containers against
<jadahl> i can make such a release after an eventual merge

<emersion> thanks jadahl
<pq> now that's a fast release :-) Lovely those projects that can release at any time when there is anything new.
<emersion> yeah it really makes sense for w-p
<jadahl> emersion: np, thanks for making unredirection a reality :)
<emersion> at long last :)
* jadahl remembers seeing unredirection being demoed using weston at fosdem.. in like 2013 or 2014 or something :P

<trepatudo> Does wayland(sway?) scaling works by font scaling or bitmap scaling?
<emersion> the latter, though clients may offer their own options for the former
<trepatudo> the best way to achieve the ideal text sharpening will be adjusting fonts on application basis?
<trepatudo> or it's not noticeable

<kennylevinsen> trepatudo: HiDPI-aware clients just render larger content, bypassing scaling. The compositor implements scaling as a fallback.
<kennylevinsen> note that fractional scaling is a separate discussion, as wayland only supports integer scaling natively right now.

<trepatudo> kennylevinsen: would HiDPI-aware clients render fractional scaling by increasing font/icon/UI size accordingly and the fallback being more problematic?
<trepatudo> or it's a general problem even if the client implements it correctly?
<kennylevinsen> there is currently no support for fractional scaling in the protocol
<kennylevinsen> compositors performing fractional scaling must do it through bitmap scaling for all clients until a protocol is sorted to allow HiDPI-aware clients to bypass scaling.

<trepatudo> thanks, I really appreciate the sharpness of 130% scaling on 1440p
<trepatudo> I wouldn't mind moving to 4K at 200% to get 1080p desktop with good text sharpness
<trepatudo> I'm just undecided between moving back to X11 if I have 2 screens with same dpi or staying on sway
