<repetitivestrain> btw, is it really necessary to allow placing subsurfaces _below_ the parent?

<zebrag> looking for `wayland text input protocol compatible keyboards`
<zebrag> I think there is maliit, but I want modifier keys, like tab, ctrl, etc, that would allow me to control applications through shortcuts in a touchscreen context
<zebrag> does that mean that squeekboard should work with kwin?
<zebrag> So we have two upstream protocols and three downstream protocols, very puzzling
<zebrag> "It shall give newcomers a first understanding of what input methods are and how they are implemented in Wayland."
<zebrag> ^ I'll try to read it thoroughly

<JPEW> I have an embedded device running weston and our application is only getting 30FPS (when 60 should be possible). We found that setting `repaint-window=16` made our application start getting frames callbacks at 60FPS; does this mean that weston is taking too long to repaint in the default 7ms repaint window and missing the vblank, so it needs more time?
<JPEW> (hence weston only renders every other vblank for 30FPS)
<kennylevinsen> 7ms is a vert long time to composite
<kennylevinsen> *very
<emersion> Weston should log something when missing the deadline iirc
<JPEW> emersion: Is that in the DRM backend?

<MrCooper> kennylevinsen: 7 ms may seem long for the compositor itself, but the client GPU work needs to finish in time as well
<daniels> ^ yeah, the composition work is just a couple of quads, so it means that whatever work the client's doing is taking too long. enlarging repaint-window is the way to fix this. making repaint-window adaptive per-surface would of course be even better :)
<JPEW> Ya we are trying to composite a 4K scene with EGL, so I suspect there is some rendering time required :)
<JPEW> Unfortunately the $EVIL_BSP_VENDOR replaced the DRM backend with their own special sauce and binary EGL driver, so pretty much all of the nice debugging from there is lost :(
<JPEW> Anyway I just wanted to confirm that the line of reasoning was correct. Thanks everyone
