<jhovold> here's an updated wip branch for the X13s:
<jhovold> changes include:
<jhovold> - fingerprint reader support
<jhovold> - gpu support (v3)
<jhovold> - gpu fixup CP_PROTECT settings
<jhovold> konradybcio: the fingerprint reader fortunately does not seem to require any magic secure world apps
<jhovold> I've had it running for a while now, but hesitated on pushing it out too soon as the USB multiport series is likely to require a fair bit of work still
<jhovold> But here it is, if anyone wants to play with it.

<ajhalaney[m]> ooohh, is the sensor hanging off the multiport? Thought that was just not hooked up on the laptop for some reason. More incentive to continue to care about that outside of sa8540p-ride :D
<clover[m]> Dope

<jenneron[m]> bamse steev: when i run disk benchmark in gnome disks i barely can move cursor and sound is choppy. is it related to interconnect? do we have any fixes for this?
<jenneron[m]> (on lenovo flex 5g)

<clover[m]> stirl_: i did get endeavourOS working with grub, but i had to manually add my initrd to the entry. for some reason grub-mkconfig did not pick it up, maybe it doesn't expect it at the root level of the EFI directory idk
<clover[m]> so the way to go right now in arch based stuff is with grub since there is some kind of systemd-boot regression
<stirl> clover[m] -- I can give that a go. I tried to boot up the endeavor os iso last night and it would not boot.
<stirl> I can try setting grub up.
<clover[m]> i got this far with the write up, things kinda went wrong at the bootloader part so use grub instead of sd-boot: https://github.com/ironrobin/archiso-x13s/wiki/EndeavourOS-Tutorial-(WIP)
<clover[m]> kind of a mess since i panicked and didn't finish it properly. stirl if you give it a go maybe you can give some feedback on the write up to make it better. (adding a grub section etc.)
<steev> jenneron[m]: the only time i saw weirdness like that was when using wifi heavily, but i did not benchmark the disk either. i haven't had a chance to try the latest sc8180x stuff yet
<jenneron[m]> steev: it happens on any disk load. even when downloading files
<jenneron[m]> disk benchmark is just an easy way to reproduce
<HdkR> I noticed that on my HDK888 as well. Was some weird behaviour which is why I wanted to get off of it as fast as possible
<stirl> I will give this a go tonight. Is there a grub guide somewhere that is a good baseline reference?
<clover[m]> just dont follow x86 intructions. e.g., at install step do `grub-install --target=arm64-efi --efi-directory=/boot --bootloader-id=GRUB` instead
<stirl> got it. I have been taking notes down as I have been trying to get this working so I can share those at some point

<clover[m]> steev rc5 soon? :) also you can delete lenovo-x13s-linux-6.3.y-ironrobin now i think
<steev> i should delete the entire repo and start over, tbh
<steev> at some point i accidentally pushed all tags... and that's why there are like 6000
<clover[m]> lol
<konradybcio> jenneron: just to confirm, your storage is nvme?
<konradybcio> on the slowing-down-8180x
<jenneron[m]> konradybcio: UFS
<konradybcio> we don't yet have ufs bus scaling.. so there's your issue

<konradybcio> SPX?

<stirl> is there a preference for x11 or wayland on these?

<clover[m]> GNOME or Plasma is going to come with wayland by default. I prefer wayland wherever possible. gives you a lot of good laptop stuff by default like touchpad gestures

<stirl> agreed just wasn't sure if this was a case where X11 has better compatibility
svarbanov has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<steev> gnome wayland has better touch gesture support, but you can't restart the session without logging out and back in, x11 has less good gesture support, but you can restart the session without logging out and back in
<steev> screen sharing is still hit or miss
<stirl> I've had plenty of issues with screen share on wayland. had to use X11 for awhile because I needed to screen share constantly
<stirl> Is it the case that camera will likely never work on x13s? I don't remember if I saw that mentioned here or if I saw it elsewhere
<robclark> either x11 or wayland should work.. maybe wayland is better tested these days, idk
<robclark> camera is probably a heavy lift.. AFAIU x13s uses mipi camera

<clover[m]> On Wayland, I can screen share any tab of the browser in which i am using Zoom/Google Meet. Anything more than that and i get issues.
<clover[m]> If I have to pair program i will just boot windows usually
<clover[m]> That's only like once a quarter these days
