<steev> haven't tried
<steev> calebccff: so you're still using bamse's c630 from 4 years ago, not the one that lumag submitted a while back? do you have external display on the c630?

<craftyguy> anarchron: upstream _release_ of MM or from git master?
<steev> what i have in debian testing/kali rolling works which should be 1.22.0
<steev> unless debian are pulling in patches

<jhovold> anarchron, craftyguy: you should be fine with anything newer than ModemManager 1.20
<jhovold> you may just need to adjust what you point the fcc-unlock symlink to unless using the latest
<jhovold> (i.e. point it to the vendor unlock script directly)

<albsen[m]> hi, I just got a x13s and I'm wondering which linux to install, usually I run either debian or fedora. now I've seen that most work has been put into arch for the x13s. do you guys have any experience running either of these?
<HdkR> I run Ubuntu on my X13s
<Jasper[m]> albsen[m]: All three of them can be installed with relative ease
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> albsen[m]: yes)
<albsen[m]> ok, will try debian and see how that goes.
<Jasper[m]> albsen[m]: Check their wiki for some additional instructions
<albsen[m]> yes, I was planning on using this one: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/X13s
<Jasper[m]> Do try and let us and them know if you run into issues
<Jasper[m]> Some other distro's need less tinkering though (looking at the instructions)
<albsen[m]> yes, I saw some stuff mentioned, for example this one mentions that u have to deactivate 5ghz wifi, is that still applicable? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WuxE-42ZeOkKAft5FuUk6C2fonkQ8sqNZ56ZmZ49hGI/mobilebasic
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> albsen[m]: this manual too old
<albsen[m]> <Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> "this manual too old" <- thx
<jglathe> Hmm I'm using Ubuntu on it. Did my own install medium the odd way - used the RPi image from Ubuntu and adapted it for Volterra/X13s. With armbian you can choose the distro, although not all of them work as well.
<jglathe> 5Ghz Wifi works fine
<Jasper[m]> Ubuntu has an iso that works out of the box, Fedora needs a tiny bit of tinkering, but Rawhide works near perfectly otherwise.
<Jasper[m]> SUSE is in the same boat as Fedora
<Jasper[m]> Arch has Clover's iso

<craftyguy> jhovold: I have MM 1.22, and a symlink /etc/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.d/105b:e0c3 -> /usr/share/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.available.d/105b:e0c3
<craftyguy> MM reports "signal quality: 0% (recent)", which seems weird... do others with working wwan on the X13s get a non-zero value for this?
sally has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<agl> steev & jhovold : Is it better to generate a new .config with "make johan_defconfig" and to switch on the necessary modules which I need or can I use the .config from 6.6.y for 6.7.y?
<bamse> craftyguy: yes, i do get a non-zero signal quality on mine
<bamse> craftyguy: can you confirm that your symlink points to another symlink, when ends up being a shell script?
<craftyguy> hmmmm what am I missing...
* craftyguy looks
<craftyguy> ya it ultimately points to /usr/share/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.available.d/105b
<bamse> and i presume you have working connectivity in windows?
<craftyguy> and that's a shell script
<craftyguy> I've never booted windows on this :D
<craftyguy> first thing I did when unboxing it was nuke the windows install
<bamse> A/B testing without 'A' ;)
<craftyguy> heh, 'A' is too expensive and I disagree strongly with it
<craftyguy> but ya, I get your point and it's helpful in situations like this one
<craftyguy> maybe it's disabled in "bios" ?
<bamse> i hear you :)
<bamse> do you have anything useful in the modemmanager logs?
<bamse> if the fcc-lock isn't in order it continuously just loops at one of the early stages...
jglathe has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<craftyguy> I don't see any messages in the MM log about running any fcc script.. what should I be looking for?
<craftyguy> I'll enable more verbose logging in MM
<craftyguy> ya nothing about an fcc unlock script in the MM debug log

<craftyguy> bamse: could you share a snippet from mm's log when the fcc unlock thingy runs? so I know what I should expect when things work?
<bamse> i don't think it shows anything useful
<bamse> but if you didn't run it...you have logs where it report "state (X/10)" and that just loops over and over on one of the lower states
