<zdykstra> Is battery drain when the x13s is powered off (via shutdown -h) a unique-to-me experience?
<zdykstra> I shut the machine down, unplugged it and had the battery drain from 100% to 79% over the course of maybe 4 days
<zdykstra> Powering it back up had it flash the screen then turn off again, so I suspect it's not shutting off correctly. I haven't really tried to diagnose it though .
<craftyguy> hmm I haven't noticed, I rarely power off mine XD

<adamcstephens> I noticed last night when messing with Windows that the led on the power button flashes a number of times when it’s shut down. I’ll have to check the same with Linux
<steev> i do wish we knew what the amount means
<steev> i've seen it go up to 20

<albsen[m]> when running a 6.7 am I expected to update the dtb with the one the kernel shipped with?

<steev> yes
<steev> generally, if something changes in it, you probably should
<robclark> In _theory_ you can always use most recent dtb with an older kernel.. occasionally the theory breaks down, but not too much... newer kernel with older dtb might mean some features/drivers don't work like they would with same kernel but newer dtb. A play-it-safe option would be to keep the kernel and dtb matched, mostly because that is what will be better tested (rather than newer dtb and older kernel not intended to
<robclark> work)
<HdkR> Is a DTB provided by the bootloader considered userspace and should have the same backwards compatibility concerns as the syscall interface? :)
<steev> i'd trust a dtb provided by the bootloader as much as i'd trust their acpi tables or an edid
<steev> that actually reminds me, a friend has started digging into his (x86_64) acpi stuff, and it has been fun to see him go through things - he actually threw it on the web - https://x0rw3ll.com/re/acpi/acpi.html

<jglathe_> laptop_defconfig doesn't build with QCOM_TSENS, though
<albsen[m]> <jglathe_> "laptop_defconfig doesn't build..." <- which kernel?
hightower2 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<albsen[m]> <steev> "generally, if something changes..." <- I been trying to redirect dtb to a different file so that I can match them, but for some reason neither of the following commands worked: kernel param: dtb=sc8280xp-lenovo-thinkpad-x13s-new.dtb nor the grub command devicetree sc8280xp-lenovo-thinkpad-x13s-new.dtb; I also tried, devicetree (hd0,gpt1)/sc8280xp-lenovo-thinkpad-x13s-new.dtb . I have the file in my efi partition right next to
<albsen[m]> the previous file sc8280xp-lenovo-thinkpad-x13s.dtb which does work. how can I make it load the devicetree file this way so that I can configure my kernels with different dtb's?
<jglathe_> 6.7.1
<albsen[m]> jglathe_: custom repo with patches or mainline?
<jglathe_> @albsen[m]: https://github.com/jglathe/linux_ms_dev_kit.git that is mine, but I rebase on steev's (most of the time) and my patches on top
<jglathe_> my config is devkit_defconfig, works with Volterra and x13s
<albsen[m]> jglathe_: I'll give it a try, which branch?
<jglathe_> @albsen[m] this is my /boot dir: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v-sTOE-iR5DCHSPr0F6Xxj07b7bPCHJ8/view?usp=sharing simple sudo update-grub is enough to use a new dtb if name matches kernel version
<jglathe_> @albsen[m] jg/blackrock-v6.7.y
<albsen[m]> jglathe_: you're using debian?
<albsen[m]> I'll match this and check
<jglathe_> Ubuntu 23.10

<Jasper[m]> I did see the firmware update, but not the changelog

<steev> Maybe a signing key changed
<steev> I don’t remember it from back then, but I’m sure I applied it
<steev> albsen[m]: jglathe_ : I just use the install-dtbs file that came with the Debian installer way back when (the custom one) - but, I also do devicetree /full/path/to/the.dtb (because I’m using fscrypt and not fde)
<steev> So e.g. if I’m booting 6.6.13, it would be `devicetree /usr/lib/linux-image-6.6.13/qcom/sc8280xp-lenovo-thinkpad-x13s.dtb`
<steev> jglathe_: oh, right, we discussed that over email didn’t we? Re:tsens
<steev> Though. I think it’s at the point where I can add in a kernel hook
<jglathe__> @steev yes. Built yesterday on the X13s with laptop_defconfig and was somewhat surprised to not see the temps today.
<steev> yeah, i forgot :(

<_[m]123> I thought there was some config to set dtb in grub? seems I don't have it in my config on debian though
<Jasper[m]> Oh hey sound fixes are in next
<Jasper[m]> Sadly not in time for 6.8 it seems :(
<_[m]123> I thought rc1?
<Jasper[m]> _[m]123: it's not in torvalds/linux from what I can tell
<jhovold> Jasper[m]: the sound fixes are queued for 6.8 (and stable)
<jhovold> so should show up in rc2 or rc3
<Jasper[m]> jhovold: Ah, awesome
<Jasper[m]> Can't wait
<Jasper[m]> I guess because they're technically bugfixes right?
<jhovold> correct
<jhovold> and important enough
<Jasper[m]> jhovold: Surprise alsa-ucm-conf release breaks every x13s speaker in existence in a freak accident
<jhovold> maybe arch would be fast enough to beat rc2/rc3 if there was a release today, not the others ;)
<jhovold> you can still break your speakers today if you try
<jhovold> nothing is preventing you from increasing the speaker amplification in alsamixer
<jhovold> but with the ucm files fixes, that can also be done through pulseaudio/pipewire by just increasing the volume there
<Jasper[m]> jhovold: I'm on Fedora rawhide, that's not a bet I would take haha
<Jasper[m]> jhovold: Exactly
<_[m]123> <jhovold> "nothing is preventing you from..." <- I've put max there was maybe some slight deformation noticeable
<_[m]123> but the volume was still too soft to eg understand speech fully from 1meter distance
<jhovold> _[m]123: yeah, don't do that
<jhovold> which volume did you increase specically?
<jhovold> even if you increase the PA you can get away with it by lower other gains earlier in the change, but you end up with crap audio then
<jhovold> s/change/chain/
<jhovold> I have no idea what system your on, or if you have the latest fixes, but everyhting will just work shortly
<jhovold> even if you may need to flush out your old alsa state to benefit from it
<_[m]123> jhovold: playback
<_[m]123> steev latest kernel
<_[m]123> debian
<jhovold> in pulseaudio you mean? yeah, that's ok as long as you don't manually max out the actual speaker volume which is set elsewhere
<_[m]123> does it damage your speakers? I thought it's only amplitude that could do that
<jhovold> that is what speaker volume is
<jhovold> the hardware volume
<jhovold> hardware controlled volume
<Jasper[m]> _[m]123: Also this has the volume fixes applied iirc
<_[m]123> yes, but if it's still silent in output, amplitude is low?
<jhovold> right
<jhovold> if you haven't heard any loud noise yet, your speakers should be fine
<_[m]123> Jasper[m]: it got more silent and clean sound since second last rebuild yes, with the backports jhovold mentioned
<_[m]123> I just tested it but when it deformed i put it more silent
<_[m]123> my Bluetooth headphones kept disconnecting sadge
<_[m]123> not yet haha, am not going to retest though, thanks johan

<akawolf> hi, guys! can you please enable CONFIG_IP6_NF_IPTABLES in future kernel configs?
* steev runs make allmodconfig && make savedefconfig
<akawolf> steev: do you have it enabled?
<steev> no
<steev> but i run with ipv6 disabled
<akawolf> why?
<akawolf> any reason for disable ipv6 nowadays
<steev> privacy concerns
<Jasper[m]> steev: Huh?
<akawolf> I use ironrobin's pkgs, he have no such concerns I think, so please ironrobin, enable this config
<Jasper[m]> SLAAC?
<steev> you can submit a merge request to him; others have
<Jasper[m]> steev: Ah yeah, SLAAC
<Jasper[m]> interesting
<akawolf> yeah, btw, I have no loud speakers for some reason, after I've installed new alsa ucm config I had for a while, but for some reason it stopped working (not sure what the reason is, maybe upgrading kernel to 6.7.1)
<jglathe> with 6.7.1 its actually louder
