I have now installed Debian on the internal SSD of the x13s, because I assumed that it is because the USB-C interface is not properly initialized/addressed to mount the root filesystem on the external SSD. But it turned out that the access to the internal SSD of the x13s does not work either. The 6.8.1 kernel crashes after 4 lines of output at the point where the root should be mounted.
