<robclark> bryanodonoghue: iirc MS had generic arm64 img downloads.. idk if they'd contain all the random drivers. My windows partition is long since gone
<farchord> Anyone know the distros that have a working image for x1e? I saw Ubuntu's concept, any other?

<bryanodonoghue> hmm interesting looks like all of the x1e80/x1e70 laptops either use ov02c10 or ov05xx
<bryanodonoghue> even microsoft

<freekurt[m]> <farchord> "Anyone know the distros that..." <- Debian is lagging so far behind Ubuntu on aarch64 laptop documentation. The page they have about installing Debian on the x13s is embarrassing in comparison to Ubuntu's instructions to use the default aarch64 installer. Seems like the same will continue with x1e.
<farchord> Yeah fair enough. I'll try to check on making Fedora kinda work. I wonder how far we are in 6.12-rc5

<steev> freekurt[m]: you could always... update the wiki?
<steev> Not sure why it's "so far behind" though. and ema is here, so you could always yell at him
<freekurt[m]> Sorry, my criticism is lazy. You are right.
<freekurt[m]> I apologize to ema and everyone else. Truly, I am sorry. I should have contributed instead of criticized.
<steev> could have* you're still free to criticise :)
<steev> what parts are wrong though? or where are the pain points that make it hard to follow or what info is out of date?
<freekurt[m]> Disclaimer: I love Debian and ideologically align with it more than I do w/ Ubuntu.
<freekurt[m]> I just wish Debian had ISOs which allowed users to boot Debian w/ a 6.12 rc kernel via a USB-A stick to give it a test drive.
<JensGlathe[m]> USB-A is quite a challenge on these new X1e boxes
<freekurt[m]> The only link I have ever seen is for a "net install". Maybe I am misinterpreting what that means.
<freekurt[m]> JensGlathe[m]: Good point.
<freekurt[m]> USB-C is what I meant to say.

<steev> freekurt[m]: net install just means it's the kernel and installer and everything else comes from the net

<JensGlathe[m]> The best "debian-adjacent" distro as of now is Ubuntu Concept X1E, with serious effort and apparently also test machines from vendors. Lotsof small details solfed as it seems
<JensGlathe[m]> solved*
<JensGlathe[m]> Anyway, we can contribute better dt's to it, too.
<macc24> <JensGlathe[m]> "The best "debian-adjacent..." <- i have plain debian running on my x1e laptop, https://github.com/Maccraft123/Cadmium/
<ema> freekurt[m]: no worries! You're free to both complain and improve
<wizzard> Arch is also running on the x1e.
<ema> I'm not working much on the x13s lately myself

<spawacz> I plugged my x13s to charge overnight, and the battery is dry
<spawacz> I can't even turn it on now
<spawacz> I used to have the issues that I had to replyg the charger 5 times in order to start charging
<spawacz> when i plug the charger now the white led flashes 3 times but turning the laptop on after several minutes prints the red plug icon and the laptop shuts down
<spawacz> is my x13s just faulty?
<spawacz> I tried 2 chargers
<spawacz> should I see the green plug image on the screen when the charger is plugged?
<spawacz> nonow the white led constantly flashes every 5 seconds and slowly fades out
<spawacz> omg it finally came back to life
<Jasper[m]> You have to wait quite a while if the battery discharges completely
<Jasper[m]> Like, 15 mins?
<spawacz> but why does it take 5 attempts to make the charging start?
<Jasper[m]> When it's discharged?
<spawacz> when in X session, I plug the charger and i see that ot starts and 2 seconds later stops
<spawacz> and i have unplug-plug 5 times even for it toregister
<Jasper[m]> spawacz: Check the ec led next time
<Jasper[m]> On the side of the device
<spawacz> the orange one?
<Jasper[m]> Or the power button led
<Jasper[m]> Ye
<Jasper[m]> If that stays solid it's charging fine, but on the kernel end there may be an issue
<spawacz> I will look at it next time
<spawacz> thanks for the tip
<Jasper[m]> What kernel version and distro are you on?
<spawacz> debian sid, mainline kernel
<Jasper[m]> Are you using the in-kernel pd-mapper or the systemd service?
<Jasper[m]> I've seen some chatter here around people having issues with the in-kernel one I think
<spawacz> /usr/bin/pd-mapper is running
<Jasper[m]> Hmm
<Jasper[m]> Could try to restart the service or check its logs
<Jasper[m]> Otherwise I don't really know
<Jasper[m]> Oh, lastly. It may be worth rotating the cable or trying the other usbc port
<Jasper[m]> I have had some issues on 6.11 to getting data/dp to work on a port if I use it for charging first
<spawacz> but when the laptop is shut down, and I plug the cable, then it should always start charging, right?
<Jasper[m]> Normally yeah, can see that on the leds
<spawacz> ok I will pay attention to that
<Jasper[m]> When discharged and it's bootlooping, it's worth holding the power button until it turns off and then wait
<Jasper[m]> That's what helped for me

<KieranBingham[m]> spawacz: I use the 5g modem on my x13s with a data sim. It usually works well, but almost always reports a low signal strength (but still works)
<konradybcio> spawacz the dying thing, it does that sometimes
<konradybcio> maybe windows has some additional undervoltage measures, or maybe nobody used windows for long enough to hit it ;)
