<konradybcio> Jens Glathe: did you testboot the thing after removing gpio-reserved-ranges?
<konradybcio> if you reserve too little, it may crash on picntrl driver probe
<JensGlathe[m]> konradybcio: actually I did. But thanks for the warning. Apparently I was lucky, but it's also a no-docs situation for me.
<JensGlathe[m]> rebooted on 6.12rc4 and rc5, no hiccups
<konradybcio> good, thanks

<steev> macc24: hm?
<macc24> sorry i was half asleep when checking this channel on my phone and accidentally tagged you
<steev> oh :D
<steev> i was agreeing to the unfortunate hw design, this is the first time in a long time i've seen the led not tied to the hardware activation

<steveej[m]> even works in gnome cheese

<JensGlathe[m]> what Do I need to test it
<steveej[m]> Jens Glathe: i'm not sure that was in response to my camera celebration. this is on x13s btw.
<JensGlathe[m]> It was
<JensGlathe[m]> I have the hardware
<steveej[m]> being on nixos i could point you to my exact config if that would help you. basically using libcamera 0.3.1 from nixos-unsable and wireplumber's most recent commit. also applying a postFixup command to libcamera. not sure if that's required on other distros or if you compile from source:
<steveej[m]> > ../src/ipa/ipa-sign-install.sh src/ipa-priv-key.pem $out/lib/libcamera/ipa_*.so
<steveej[m]> ah and setting an environment variable for the wireplumber systemd user service. might also be due to a nixos specific packaging bug:
<steveej[m]> > systemd.user.services.wireplumber.environment.LIBCAMERA_IPA_PROXY_PATH = "${pkgs.libcamera}/libexec/libcamera";
<steev> JensGlathe[m]: fwiw, on x13s and debian testing, it just works
<steveej[m]> well there you go :-)
<JensGlathe[m]> thanks, will have a test session I guess
<steev> you do need the udev rule though
<steveej[m]> the video looks really zoomed in in cheese.
<leio> I'm new here and out of the loop, but cheese is rather legacy and has all sorts of problems surrounding modern cameras, the modern gnome replacement is Snapshot
<steveej[m]> thanks leio, i'll try that
<steev> what up leio !
<leio> nothing much, got some vague need for a laptop now, so decided to lurk here instead of the same channel in the wrong network post-freenode :)
<steev> :D
<leio> mostly because they didn't do M4 for Mac Air, and I don't have a need for a powerful one with the Studio on desk
<steev> i keep trying to tell nerdboy to come hang here but he rarely shows up :(
<steev> isn't m2 support still iffy and anything higher not yet there?
<leio> I'm mostly good with my M2, main thing is I only have one monitor still
<leio> (external monitor, this is a desktop; on laptops you get internal + 1 external if it has physical HDMI port)
<leio> but my neck hurts less, so there's that :)
<steev> that's fair. i'm quite happy with my thinkpad x13s
<leio> that's something like a tad bit beefier than a M2 air due to more cores?
<leio> if M4 air would have come out, I probably would have just gotten that and dealt with macOS until it's there. The focus is shifting to getting those going soon.
<leio> but I have a couple months, and the need isn't strong, just more flexibility in travelling around by new car :)
<leio> so, lurking mostly as per above :)
<leio> 4K non-glossy display would be neat, but realistically I don't need it there

<tobhe_> steev: m2 support has been pretty much on the same level as m1 for a while now
<steev> ah
<steev> leio: thats why i like the thinkpad - matte display
<tobhe_> leio: I have both x13s and an m2 air here, the m2 air performs a lot better. The next gen of snapdragons is more competitive. x13s is still fine for most things I do though
<leio> thanks for the data point
<leio> I'll just have to keep informed and see when it's time. It's more like next May maybe, it snows here and I don't care much for not being near the desktop for now :)
<leio> used M2 air or a M3 air (used or new) by then probably still best by then, sadly
<macc24> for me x1e78100 does pretty much everything i need it to do
<macc24> s/it/any computer i daily drive/
<macc24> except youtube - no sound :(
<steev> i'll probably be getting the t14s with 64gb ram after my eoy bonus, but til then, the x13s meets my needs
<JosDehaes[m]> macc24: did you try with userspace pd-mapper now?
<macc24> yeah and it worked even worse
<JosDehaes[m]> how weird that it only seems to work on my machine (well I do have the distortion issue still, must lower the volume in the sound playing app very low)
