I should check if installing from that ISO under Hyper-V results in the Windows Store being missing. The last time I tried that, it was missing. "You'll need a new app to open this msstore:// URL" -- "look on the store" -- "You'll need a new app to open this msstore:// URL"

steev: i'm told that this commit contains the firmware we need for x13s, and that there should be a patch to the driver posted later today (perhaps that's tomorrow due to time zones though)
<steev>
bamse: oh interesting, jens already submitted one a few weeks back but we never got any feedback on it (that i'm aware of)
<JensGlathe[m]>
its not only X13s, also Volterra and HP X14 would be covered

The WCN7850 variant of the genereate_nvm_fwname function could be used directly as it seems, would be my V2 of this

why is it "new, archived"?
<bamse>
is there a later version? or one coming up?
<JensGlathe[m]>
no idea why it is archived. After posting a link here there was a short discussion re WCN7850 function, but I did not take any further action. If the announced patch does what is needed, good
<JensGlathe[m]>
otherwise I would do a v2

but no longer RFC as this has been settled apparently

i've been using this (and my version that jens was based on) for forever so it'll be nice to be fixed up to use the b8c firmware

and who knows, maybe they'll know why we don't get the correct one in the first place

Not much
<SpieringsAE>
webcord for example has quite severy glitching, simple applications only mild. I tested just now with screen sharing, but that looks perfect

I should probably try a different graphical environment, maybe it is actually hyprland being wacky

meh I'm just going to buy it to support and how tf they have working ubuntu and fedora
<farchord>
\: yeah I saw that... But when I saw that it's slower than a raspi.... ergh
<SpieringsAE>
jeah I really wish they would have at least gone with that 8 core spacemit soc
<SpieringsAE>
they already have a system with it, so it's not like they don't know about/how to work with it
<farchord>
Btw, how's it going with X1E mainstream support? Is X-mas still being targeted?
<SpieringsAE>
oof there is still a lot to be done
<SpieringsAE>
doubt that, like there is the ubuntu concept which is probably the best option for just flash it and pop it in
<farchord>
yeah I saw that one
<SpieringsAE>
audio is iffy, camera absolutely not, usb-c display and such is iffy
<farchord>
I know that alot of things are still not working though, like sound for example
<SpieringsAE>
usb-a is not there, hdmi on my system for example, but it is very workable if you don't need those
<farchord>
yeah, sound and camera for me are necessities. USB-c display? Meh. Don'T really care.
<farchord>
USB-a, if USB-C works, is workable. Dongles ftw, do it the Apple way.
<SpieringsAE>
I feel like camera especially is going to be a bit, but idk, I've had bad experiences trying to get camera working at my work
<SpieringsAE>
but then again I barely know what I am doing, maybe its not actually that bad
<robclark>
IIRC some people have sound working .. not sure anyone has camera yet.. anything where you could use USB things (usb-camera, etc) should $just_work
<robclark>
so USB peripherals might be a workable short term workaround

seems like old buffers coming back for a split second, one frame of the previously open application popping back up

stuff like that
<SpieringsAE>
i type a letter in the terminal, it dissapears again for a second and then reappears
<SpieringsAE>
well, not a second like a frame more
<SpieringsAE>
but yeah, in kde 6 (wayland) everything is fine

is there someone willing to test Hyprland to see if they get the same?
<SpieringsAE>
kinda would like to verify its not just my asus being funky before I make a bug reports
<robclark>
probably isn't going to be specific to the laptop.. but it could be either hyprland relying on some undefined behavior or a driver bug.. hard to say which. Is hyprland using gl or vk? Also, what mesa version (it never hurts to see if issue still happens w/ ToT mesa)
SpieringsAE has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<steev>
robclark: i wanna say... alacritty, moving it around... but i'm trying now on both X11 and Wayland and not seeing it....
<robclark>
there were a few bugs fixed early on, but at this point I'd expect the driver to be pretty ok..
<steev>
it didn't bother me enough to say anything :)
<robclark>
unreported bugs tend not to get fixed :-)
<JensGlathe[m]>
well. you need to prioritize
<steev>
i mean... half the time i've got experimental/bleeding edge software going
<steev>
if i only ever see it happen with one terminal, i tend to assume it's not mesa but the terminal

wifi works OOTB, on llvm, but I'm checking to see if I can't fix that by adding some firmwarez

looks like fw path is /lib/firmware/qcom/x1e80100/ASUSTeK/vivobook-s15 .. and you might need a patch to enable gpu on the asus (IIRC someone posted it a day or two back)
