I've been on kernel 6.3.0-asahi-00668-g1a9452fde941 on Debian for a while now. After upgrading to a newer kernel, KMS doesn't work and I have to use the older kernel if I want a display.
<BenTheTechGuy>
simple-framebuffer seems to be failing to acquire the memory range it needs

<janneg>
BenTheTechGuy: does the apple drm/dcp driver work with 6.3? the simple-framebuffer issue can probably be solved by disabling or blacklisting efifb
<BenTheTechGuy>
apple-drm and apple-dcp do work on 6.3. Turns out that simple-framebuffer error existed on 6.3 too, so that's not the main cause.

are the later kernels booted with the same m1n1/dtbs/u-boot boot.bin in $ESP/m1n1?
<BenTheTechGuy>
yes
<janneg>
that doesn't work. unfortunately we change the hardware description in an incompatible way occasionally when we learn more about the hardware or add more support
<BenTheTechGuy>
Okay, how can I fix this? The m1n1 package is the latest version
<BenTheTechGuy>
looks like the U-Boot is from April
<BenTheTechGuy>
just confirmed btw the problem is with apple-dcp failing to get the pidoma child DT node
<BenTheTechGuy>
interesting, there's apparently now an m1n1 package in upstream Debian that is the same version but must have outdated U-Boot or not install the new one or something. Manually installing the one from glanzmann's repo (same version number) fixed it
<BenTheTechGuy>
there's another issue I've been having: qemu-user-static doesn't work, returning "error while loading shared libraries:" and nothing else when I try to run even a static binary with it.
<BenTheTechGuy>
version 8.1.2 which should have its previous asahi problems fixed
