Trying to implement NFTABLES on a 6.6.15 kernel. Please see screenshot https://ibb.co/qrNQwyF I cannot toggle "IPv4 nf_tables support" from inline kernel to module (m). Anyone any bright ideas?? I know it is early in the morning...

u154ss: what do you mean by "implement"? It's enabled in your kernel, what else do you need?
<PaulFertser>
It's an option, not a separate module, so you can't have it =m naturally.
<chadmed>
u154ss: NF_TABLES_IPV4 is a bool not a tristate. you cant build it as a module
hdbngr has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<u154ss>
@Fertser in my setup, it is NOT enabled. I rip out the stuff I do not want/need as always (tracing, diagnostics, debugging, ipv6 etc.) as a matter of course. Now I would like to "re-implement" NFTABLES, hence the original question.
<u154ss>
@all The NFTABLES documentation I have read to date mentions compiling NF_TABLES_IPV4 as a module (m). Maybe the information I have read is obsolete, no idea.
<PaulFertser>
u154ss: if you are doing all that things "as a matter of course" then please include reading Kconfig files in your course.

Hi. I installed Moonlight (Open Source Nvidia Gamestream Client) via Flatpak on the Fedora Remix. It works, but my M2 Air gets very hot. Do you think this might be because it lacks hardware accelerated video decoding? Or is there anything I can do right now to help with this? Thanks.
<jfy>
Alternatively any other ideas for how I can use a remote Windows PC for streaming games to my Linux M2 Air are also very appreciated. Moonlight was just the first thing I tried because it's the only solution I know of.

Why people like Flatpaks so much... I understand containers for micro-services but for regular software, why?..
<jfy>
Would really appreciate not having to use it, yes. But for a quick test I didn't want to compile the software myself and they don't offer an ARM RPM as far as I can see.

<PaulFertser>
Quick test performed, probably time to self-compile now. And this way you'll be able to debug it too. Mesa inside flatpak is likely using llvmpipe.
<janneg>
Flatpak is currently a bad choice for GUI applications since the the GPU driver is not available uin the standard runtimes
<PaulFertser>
You mean it's sometimes a good choice? Instead of packaging software properly for a favorite distro it's ok to rely on flatpak?
<jfy>
Ok. Do you think it would change anything about video decoding performance, though? I understand that there is an OpenGL driver, but I don't think this applies here, right?
<PaulFertser>
Decoding no, but scaling and colourspace conversion probably.

from an user perspective just wanting to use software not available as package but with a flatpak build the flatpak looks like a good choice
<jfy>
Ah, interesting. Well, thanks let's see what I can do.

Since flatpaks tend to be distro agnostic, it’s a lot less work for maintainers

If everybody just starts using windows and download software from Windows Store then GNU/Linux distro maintainers will have even less work.

Compiling that Moonlight app by myself made a huge difference. Wow. Not getting warm even a bit now.
