I should expect a lot of trouble if I want to use bluetooth keyboards on a mac which dual boots between Asahi Linux and macOS, right?
<mort_>
due to the whole "different bluetooth stacks, same MAC address" thing
<j`ey>
theres the asahi-btsync tool, which I think saves the pairing
jeisom has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<mort_>
alright, I'll see if I can get that to work

I wish fedora had update-grub
<georgemoody>
it's a fairly simple script, i'm sure you could make it on your own
<j`ey>
it has grubby, cant that do what you want?
<mort_>
sure I could make my own, but the nice thing about update-grub is the knowledge that the change I did to /etc/default/grub will get applied, whatever weird grub setup the distro has
<mort_>
a lot of the resources online about how to update the grub config in fedora doesn't work in asahi fedora remix for example
<mort_>
grubby seems harder to use than editing /etc/default/grub, and I have to give it the path to the kernel I want to change parameters for?
<mort_>
I want to change parameters for all Linux kernels, I don't want them to get reset whenever I do a kernel update
<j`ey>
couldnt you make the change in /etc/default/grub and use grubby to update it for the current set?
<j`ey>
there's also /etc/sysconfig/bootloader that has a cmdline in
<mort_>
I don't know if you could make the change in /etc/default/grub and use grubby to update grub, I haven't used grubby before and am just going by --help output and Red Hat help pages
<mort_>
it doesn't matter a lot anyway, I just think it would've been nice to have a universal way to apply grub config changes, and update-grub is the closest we have to that right

hmm so asahi-btsync tool worked like a charm but it turns out gdm doesn't work if a monitor is connected via hdmi, that's interesting
<leio>
works fine-ish here, albeit I only have HDMI monitor
<leio>
I think it puts the user interface only on one of the screens
<leio>
rest looks grey?
<mort_>
no no, I mean it properly crashes or something, after plymouth exits I see systemd boot output for a bit (nothing failed, just the normal starting services output) and then the screen goes black

I made this by hand before the tool existed. Tried it out for additional bluetooth devices but there was no change on the linux system, asahi-btsync also did not output anything

mort_: hmm, maybe something like my case then. I didn't have it work often if auto-starting, so I took gdm out of enabled services and now always log in from terminal as root and run `systemctl start gdm && logout` manually, and then it always works. Some race condition that was there, but I got so used to it I haven't retried autostart for months, maybe not a problem anymore.

Hi, I installed Asahi on my M2 Pro Mac Mini today, and while everything went fine and I'm up and running, for some reason KDE Connect just... doesn't work? Which is odd as hell since it works on my other Linux PCs and my phone with no issue. Is this a known bug of some sort, or is there something I can do to figure it out?

gerdoch: you could try run it from the command line and see if there's any errors printed?
<gerdoch>
j`ey, let me give that a crack, I wasn't even aware that was an option for kde connect.
<j`ey>
nor me, but if it's a separate app hopefully you can..
<gerdoch>
Well, I feel silly. I had to enable the ports for in it firewalld
linuxgemini0 has joined #asahi
<gerdoch>
Odd that I've never had to do that with a fresh Fedora install before, but eh. It's working, so I'm happy. Now I just have to wait for Displayport over USB-C to become a thing so I can use two monitors and I'll be golden.
