I'm spitballing using my M1 mac mini with Asahi on it as a home server, almost entirely for storage. I don't want to use the built-in SSD but rather a bunch of NVME SSDs external to the machine. The M1 mac mini has thunderbolt on it (does that downgrade to USB-C 3.1?) so it should be good for 10 Gb/s data transfer

<tsujp>
How would I architect a bunch of FriendlyELEC CM3588 boards though?
<tsujp>
If I had two CM3588 boards (for 8 NVME SSDs total) would I have 1 USB-C cable from the M1 mac mini to a usb hub and then connected to the hub the two CM3588 boards with their 4 drives each?

<tsujp>
Would NAS software kknow to address those drives through USB etc? I'm new to this
<tsujp>
(and given I want to use Asahi I am not sure what my options are)

Hello folks, nice to meet you all. Considering the possibility to install Asahi on my M1 Air. ATM I'm running Arch on a thinkpad t490. I was just wondering how the experience will be different and if there will be any real downside to consider prior moving. Thanks a lot in advance

<nicolas17>
slateroth: asahi is now based on fedora, so you'll have to learn to use the dnf package manager :)
<bluetail>
nicolas17 isn't fedora affected by the recent security issue of liblzma ?
<nicolas17>
how is that related
<Tramtrist>
Technically I understood Fedora x86_64 is only
<slateroth>
nicolas17: thanks for the feedback. so it is just a matter of underlying package manager and stop
<slateroth>
bluetail: the vulnerability is only for who has a specific version of package + public exposed ssh server so this limit the amount of implicated ppl
<nicolas17>
asahi is also fedora 39, which didn't get this version of liblzma
<nicolas17>
"Fedora Rawhide users are likely to have received the tainted package. Fedora Linux 40 branched users (i.e. pre-Beta) likely received the potentially vulnerable 5.6.0-2.fc40 build if the system updated between March 2nd and March 6th."

<slateroth>
also nicolas17 how is the repos status? are there all the same packages that are generally available for fedora or it's needed to consider to have a subset + need to compile some by self?
<nicolas17>
basically the build-time part of the backdoor was only triggered if a .deb or .rpm package was being built
<leio>
slateroth: fedora has full arm64 support (unlike arch), so it's fedora as usual with the asahi additional packages
<slateroth>
thx leio, that's lit; gonna consider a test run :3
<leio>
there are other distribution options, but arch (or rather, ALARM) is a pretty bad option right now.
