M2 Max Macbook Pro is the way to go for displays. Feature parity with M1 but with HDMI 2.1. Hooked up to an ultrawide (because theres only one hdmi port and dual monitors are not supported yet).

yes it can parse VTDB. That are either DTD (Detailed Timing Descriptor) or CVT (Coordinated Video Timings) descriptor in the CTA-861 Extension Block

it contains 2 DTD but only 2560x1440 120/60 Hz. curiously with numbers 2 and 3 so dcp might redact things

BetterDisplay did muck up the OS-Managed EDID to something 384 byte at one point when retrieved back, but then afterwards it didn't seem to change at all anymore (when retrieved back), so that's fun to work with as well.
