I assume that will require more reverse engineering

wens: which part? H265 8K support is just extension of existing fields by 1 bit, which are connected to width and height
<gamiee>
Speaking of CedarC, I plan to try CedarC on bare metal, probably through Melis RTOS. Quite curious if it will work.
<jernej>
VP9 registers are not really misterious, since there are CedarC libs with debug info included and it contain register desscriptions in form of structs with bit fields, which have very descriptive names
<jernej>
biggest issue is to determine layout of auxiliary buffers, which contain a bunch of coefficients
<gamiee>
jernej: please, I don't remember. Are the blobs universal? From what I remember, it checks the cedar core version and according to that, it talks with the cores, right?
<jernej>
well, it's more time consuming than hard problem
<jernej>
gamiee: why would you use blobs?
<gamiee>
Because I need encoding, and I want to try it on baremetal/RTOS firmware.
<jernej>
But yeah, they are mostly universal. Cedar cores are more or less backward compatible, so blobs check core version mostly to see if there are new features supported.
<jernej>
gamiee: how will you use Linux blobs on non-Linux system? do you have statically compiled libs?
<gamiee>
jernej: that's good to hear, and yes, I found pre-compiled static blobs for both arm32 and riscv64.
<gamiee>
No problem :) I guess .a can be handy. Not sure if it have debug symbols (didn't checked yet), but it will have the minimum stuff needed for linking, so that will be more useful as symboless .so
<jernej>
.a files is just an archive of .o files, so yeah, it should have at minimum all public functions
<jernej>
as symbols
<gamiee>
Yeah, so very useful. And since it is from D1s, it might be newer version than the blobs with debug symbols
<jernej>
gamiee: they have debug symbols :)
<gamiee>
Yay! That's amazing

jernej: supposedly the buffer data structures would also have debug info?

wens: seems so, but looking at it, it's not 1:1 to VP9 standard. some arrays are for 1 element bigger for some reason
<jernej>
aligment doesn't seem to be the reason, since all elements seems unaligned
