jow: what is a good way to check if a file exists using LuCI.fs?
<aparcar>
fs.access seems to be Lua thing and fs.stat return a NotFoundError
<rsalvaterra>
I just did a sysupgrade from failsafe without doing mount_root (the configuration was file, I was just missing an executable)… and all my configuration was reset. This was, of course, completely unexpected.
<rsalvaterra>
*fine

Should this be fixed, or documented? :)

rsalvaterra: I mean, how is sysupgrade supposed to preserve config if it can't read the files?
<rsalvaterra>
It should detect that the overlayfs isn't mounted and mount it beforehand. I did sysupgrade -u -v, that should be perfectly enough to express the intent.
<rsalvaterra>
aparcar: Mind if I merge my binutils 2.38 pull? Nobody commented on it, it's working here (ath79, ramips), and shouldn't break anything, since 2.37 is still the default.

local escalation has not a big impact on openwrt, most things run as root anyway

In OpenWrt, we should be fine already in the 5.10 series.

openwrt 19.07 is based on 4.14 :p
<zorun>
stintel: you're right, but it's pretty recent
<zorun>
anyway, dirty pipes does not apply to 19.07 and 21.02, the kernel is old enough: sometimes it's an advantage :)
<hanetzer2>
question. given a gigabit switch with a qca9531 cpu, 16MiB flash and 64MiB ram that already runs a linux based firmware, you think its worthwhile to see about porting it to owrt?
hanetzer2 is now known as hanetzer

port all the things
<stintel>
if all you care about is having security updates, I guess it makes sense. a switch can run fine with 64MB

i've figured out more about how these waps work with the bootloader and I need to change the initial install directions to using "vmlinux_1" since there is no reason to go back to stock as they are EOL/EOS and using tftp method of getting the kernel and root loaded on the device.
<Slimey>
vmlinux_1 is the factory "safe" partition thats only used to recover and load newer firmware
<Slimey>
using it you gain more space :P
<Slimey>
free space that is

<Slimey>
funny you bring that up i noticed it the other day
<tmn505>
Yeah, there's something wrong with that, probably some process holding the devices.
<Slimey>
and why is it attmepting to delete important mtd parts
<tmn505>
it's only deleting devices from mtd table, not the real partitions
<Slimey>
oh
<tmn505>
the kernel driver builds this table and deletes them when powering down
<Slimey>
guess i was reading too much into it

i have the bsap-192x figured out also as it is an exact clone of the pcs_cap324
