<djfe> slh: mrkiko: ath10k wave2 on ath79 runs badly (both ath10k and ath10k-ct have their own issues)
<djfe> I'm talking about the qca9888 firmware package on ath79 (chips like qca9886)
<djfe> qca9880 (hasn't got a firmware update in ages/was left to rot, it doesn't support meshing: 802.11s)
<djfe> qca9984 is amazing :)
<slh> so wave1, not wave2 ;)
<djfe> 05:27:57 I meant qca9980
<slh> ah, sorry
<djfe> my last two posts were about ipq806x and ipq40xx. I wasn't clear enough , sorry
<djfe> qca9880/qca988x and qca9887 are wave1 :)
<slh> and yes, QCA9980 sadly hasn't seen many firmware updates
<djfe> there's another one type of chip that could be supported eventually by the firmware of qca9888 (wave2 on ath79): QCN5502
<djfe> it would be nice to see it merged eventually. I think they are waiting for upstream to accept it. (linux-wireless)
<Mangix> djfe: That's in limbo. Probably should be resubmitted.
<djfe> looi needs to find time to work on the patches
<djfe> fine by me
<djfe> if there's anyone capable, that wants to support them, feel free :)
<djfe> I don't know enough about this

<f00b4r0> rmilecki: just curious: in your Unifi patch, the changes match neither retail nor codename, is this intended? :)
<rmilecki> f00b4r0: oops? which one?
<rmilecki> maybe i missed sth
<f00b4r0> the one you just sent. You explain that the unifi devices have a naming scheme (retail/code) but the changes your made match neither ;)
<f00b4r0> e.g. U6 Long-Range (codename U6-LR)
<f00b4r0> - DEVICE_MODEL := UniFi 6 LR
<f00b4r0> + DEVICE_MODEL := UniFi U6 LR
<rmilecki> oh crap
<rmilecki> i left those changes uncommited
<rmilecki> just noticed them in "git diff"
<f00b4r0> ,)
<f00b4r0> good thing I'm OCD :D

<Slimey> heh
<Slimey> slh djfe ever encounter these wifi cards before? https://i.imgur.com/uarzLZz.jpeg

<slh> not personally, but oversized or otherwise non-spec WLAN cards in routers/ APs is not at all uncommon (the BPi r4 wifi7 card is such an example as well, as were internal PCMCIA cards in the olden days of gore, the very early Linksys WRT-54* devices)
<djfe> Slimey: qca9994 uses the same firmware as qca9984. I think it's called qca99x4

<djfe> for qca9980 it's similar, firmware is called qca99x0 and also support qca9990
<djfe> the Archer c7 btw. also has ath10k (qca9880) as such a mini pcie card or whatever it is, while ath9k is a chip in the same soc
<djfe> *on
<djfe> not at all uncommon fits the description very well.
<slh> qca9984 vs qca9994 is the difference between consumer- and enterprise chipsets, wtih stricter quality control, temperature ranges, etc
<djfe> mikrotik routerboards are often actually the same case, same soc but a different card installed. they sometimes swap 5GHz for LTE and stuff like that (wap ac for example)
<djfe> (the wap ac exists as ath79 and ipq40xx as a second revision)
<djfe> the first has T2 in it's Modell name, the latter D2
<djfe> slh: I didn't know that thank you
<djfe> qca9994 is the 4x4 mimo Qualcomm wifi 5 wave 2 chip. I don't think they had any better one
<djfe> *the high-end 4x4 mimo
