<micsthepick>
hello! I am trying to get my hands on an anchient compiler with the most compatibility with "GCC: (OpenWrt GCC 5.2.0 rtm-4.4.1.29+r49254) 5.2.0"
<micsthepick>
reasoning: I have a router that currently uses binaries compiled with that version of gcc, and I would like to compile stuff for that firmware
<micsthepick>
(this is the stock firmware, and of a current image)

aparcar[m]: are the caches for the packages index stuck? I'm seeing days-old versions there and the same thing on downloads is fine
<efahl>
shows 2025.01.25, but should be 2025.01.29...

me compile for GCC: (OpenWrt GCC 5.2.0 rtm-4.4.1.29+r49254) 5.2.0 ? I stated above that I have some stock firmware running on the above and I'm fiddling with a chroot qemu-arm-static environment, trying to compile a LD_PRELOAD able binary
<micsthepick>
oops, I cut off that last message
<micsthepick>
I downloaded chaos-calmer-15.05.1 from github, but it refuses to build with Build dependency: Please install Git (git-core) >= 1.6.5, any recommendations on perhaps a vm to build with (QEMU would work great)?

<slh>
you realize that 15.06.1 is anicent history and almost 8 years and 7 major releases in the past?
<micsthepick>
tell that to the router manufacturer heh
<micsthepick>
I've had some sucess just using musl, but it's got other issues
<micsthepick>
(I've got the original firmware extracted already, so I don't need to install OpenWRT or otherwise compile an image, just looking to poke at the original fw)
<slh>
I'm sure 24.10 doesn't have that problem
<micsthepick>
the whole point of poking at the fw is because I'm looking for stuff to show to netgear
<slh>
then do that, but it's not an OpenWrt problem
<micsthepick>
so in summary, compiling 15's toolchain is no longer supported?
<slh>
15.05.x hasn't been supported at all since early 2018
<slh>
even if it had glaring security issues (and it has), nothing would be done to it anymore
<slh>
that's what 23.05.x or 24.10.x are for
<micsthepick>
well yeah, but netgear apparently has devices still running it (possibly with patches)
<slh>
then talk to them, not us
<micsthepick>
I don't want to sign an NDA, if possible, I guess coming here I was wondering if there was perhaps someone who knew of a way to get the old toolchain to work, or perhaps a vm/distro I can build with
<micsthepick>
if not, that's fine :)
<slh>
first be aware that the common OEM firmware bears little resemeblance with vanilla OpenWrt in the first place
<micsthepick>
hmm?
<slh>
so you couldn't get help with those here to begin with
<slh>
and I can guarantee you (without even looking) that git won't remain your only issue
<slh>
if you have a problem with OpenWrt 23.05.x, 24.10 or main snapshots, as downloaded from downloads.openwrt.org or built from git.openwrt.org, we'd be all ears - but 9.5 year old code base, heavily butchered up by QCA and then your OEM again is of no interest
<slh>
of course it's broken, that's to be expected after nearly a decade - the world keeps turning, and these things (probably - and in regards to your error message definitively) have been fixed in the mean time, in contemporary version

not meaning to be picky but just make brief observation, https://openwrt.org/ actually says " proud to present the OpenWrt 24.10 stable version series. " confusingly below (testing) etc etc.

soxrok2212 seems so sadly we can really currently support what the hw we have has (is this even english?) Anyway the main reason is... we don't have a board with that.
