I have "ontop" in my mpv.conf. When using Plasma in X11 mode, it did make the mpv window stick on top. But now that I've switched to Wayland (out of necessity -- there is no going back to X11), this is ignored. Any way around it? It's very annoying when videos I wanna watch in a mpv window while working disappears as soon as I click anywhere else. I already asked in #mpv on Libera. If I right-click the window and make it "go on top", it
<debianusr81>
works for the moment, but is forgotten as soon as I close mpv. I can't really find a reliable pattern to when it does "stick", but it's not reliable/consistent at all.
<debianusr81>
(Having to manually perform those manual clicks every single time is a nightmare which is guaranteed to not be done in practice.)

debianusr81: you can use window rules to automate such window property things

It'd be nice the have a release of libwayland sometime soon, so we can get keyboard repeat events.

zamundaaa[m]: Window rules?
<debianusr81>
zamundaaa[m]: Surprisingly, I (apparently) managed to figure it out based on that hint.
<debianusr81>
I added a "Window rule" (very confusing UI in Plasma) and it seems to do just what I asked.
<debianusr81>
But I'm not sure I "like" having to do it that way. I guess there is a very good reason for this "restrictive" approach?
<FreeFull>
I guess there isn't any way in the wayland protocols to request "always on top" at the moment, would have to check though
<debianusr81>
FreeFull: How is it possible that something like that is lacking after so many years?
<debianusr81>
Wouldn't that be among the absolute basics implemented the first week?

Apparently KDE and wlroots have stuff for always on top in their own protocols, I guess mpv doesn't support that
