ChanServ changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630)
<AlexMarty[m]> I was thinking of liquid metal mine because of no fan, maybe even modding the heat pipe, it also seems as though the chassis is a way for the cpu to cool down as mine got so hot it coud burn me
<steev> definitely
<HdkR> Chassis is quite warm with this burn, but in a 20-23C room I think 73C on the cores is fine. Will retest a full CPU + GPU burn once GPU is up :P
<steev> clover[m]: how much battery is left? i've only seen that when it has < X% of battery
<szclsya[m]> it's probably the graphite thermal pad. the whole area with the thermal pad gets hot
<steev> the cores will reach 95C iirc before throttling
<AlexMarty[m]> it ws right above the volume buttons f2/f3
<steev> yeah, thats' where the majority of the heatsink is
<AlexMarty[m]> sweet well now I know. I might try and solder on another pipe if I can find room for it
<clover[m]> 100% 😕
<harvests[m]> I notice the heat when I'm charging and using it at the same time
<szclsya[m]> yup, charging makes it extra hot for some reason
<harvests[m]> No heat when it's charging and off though
<szclsya[m]> mine still gets pretty hot when off and charging especially at low battery with a 65w charger
<szclsya[m]> I was guessing it could be the DC-DC circuitry
<clover[m]> i tried a manual BIOS update too, it threw some 'failed to flash' error
<clover[m]> i wonder if i corrupted my efi partition or something
<steev> the bios doesn't live in the efi, i don't think
<steev> you mean it gave you an executable? or you went into the lenovo app and ran it?

<clover[m]> Downloaded exe from lenovo site. It suggests that in the Readme
<steev> interesting
<steev> blargh, i think i know why my audio is broken on c630
<steev> nope, that ain't it
<steev> there was an alsa-ucm-conf update that dropped the changes, but still getting deferred device
<steev> no offense broonie, but i really hate alsa :P

<HdkR> Found out why erofsfuse was returning ENOSUPPORT. I had built it without LZ4 support.
<HdkR> Package maintainer is the developer themselves, and debian bug reporting is through email.
<HdkR> I'm sure this will sort itself out at some point
<steev> ah
<steev> actually there are no bug reports on erofs-utils currently
<steev> could be no one has bothered requesting it
<steev> sadly, the debian packaging isn't on salsa
<steev> HdkR: according to the configure, AC_MSG_ERROR([libfuse (>= 2.6) doesn't work properly])]) - they disable it because supposedly it doesn't work properly :(
<steev> actually wtf
<HdkR> Yep, noticed that while I was poking at it. Literally doesn't support fuse3
<steev> you got a tiny erofs i can download?
<HdkR> lemme upload it
<steev> thanks
<steev> what the hell
<HdkR> maximum hell

<steev> okay, yeah it should be doable, but if you're on too new of an ubuntu, it won't
<steev> 22.xx i think? dropped libfuse2
<HdkR> ` libfuse.so.2 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfuse.so.2 (0x00007f52536d8000)
<HdkR> On Ubuntu 22.04
<HdkR> So I guess 22.10?

<broonie> steev: UCM won't have any impact on loading the drivers, it only comes into play once the device is visible to usersapce.

<steev> broonie: ah, well, crud, i assumed it was trying to read the ucm stuff and failing to find the multimedia1 cpu dai name and boom :(
<clover[m]> Made a post on the Lenovo support forums about my BIOS issue
<steev> got a link?
<steev> that's really odd
<harvests[m]> <clover[m]> "https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/..."; <- glad I said to update the bios at a later time this afternoon.
<clover[m]> i think it worked fine for steev. let me know if you run into the same issue if you decide to update
<steev> yeah, worked fine here
<steev> clover[m]: what is your current uefi bios version?
<steev> maybe disable secure boot and try again? it shouldn't matter, but mine is off
<AlexMarty[m]> Is the latest bios 1.19?
<steev> yeah
<clover[m]> didn't work

<clover[m]> we were discussing WWAN on x13s yesterday, well here's a replacement video from lenovo: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht513727-removal-and-replacement-videos-thinkpad-x13s-21bx-21by
<clover[m]> also if anyone in here is interested but if x13s is a smidge higher than your budget, a redditor sent me this today
<clover[m]> >THINKBIGDEALS and BTS2022 - with these two eCoupons yesterday I got $1024 for base trim. At Lenovo US...
<steev> yeah, they usually run deals like that
<steev> and i greatly appreciate them
iivanov has quit [Quit: Leaving...]
<AlexMarty[m]> Should have used tgat when I bought mine 😭
<clover[m]> the repairability of the x13s is actually pretty damn good.
<steev> yeah but it doesn't seem like you can buy just the wwan device from them currently :(
<clover[m]> and im guessing those of us who skimped on the 5G model also are lacking the connector cables (wow thats a lot of connector wires btw)
<AlexMarty[m]> I didn’t want 5g or a touch screen but I wanted 32gb of ram and only one sku had it. I wish they had one with no touchscreen and 32gb of ram
<szclsya[m]> we may need a new chassis too, non wwan model doesn't seem to have a sim socket on it
<AlexMarty[m]> Yeah no sim slot
<clover[m]> is that requred or can the sim be applied before the wwan card is installed?
<AlexMarty[m]> Virtual sim?
<szclsya[m]> personally I just want to put a secondary ssd in it. sabrent seems to make a decent 2242 ssd
<HdkR> Watch out for keying differences
<clover[m]> thinking about returning mine for a 5G model if i have some bad board that can't update BIOS!
<szclsya[m]> what key does it use? I think that ssd uses m key
<szclsya[m]> * what key does the wwan slot use? I think that ssd uses m key
<HdkR> ssd slot is definitely m key. Looks like the wwan slot is using B key.
<HdkR> I'd guess with only the pcie lanes wired as well, so sata B drives wouldn't work
<szclsya[m]> yeah, it may not have a sata controller at all
<clover[m]> after talking with lenovo customer service, im going to be replacing my unit. i also asked for an upgrade to a 5G model...
<harvests[m]> I'll give the bios update a try
<steev> i wish they had upgraded me to the 32GB model after shipping me the Thinkpad T14 instead of X13s and taking a month to ship me the correct one :(
<steev> but i'm okay with not having the touch screen
<harvests[m]> yeah I ended up going with the 16gig ram model since I didn't want a touch screen
<harvests[m]> I hope it's enough to compile llvm quickly lol
<steev> should be
<harvests[m]> last time I hacked on llvm 3.9 it would be around 11gig of ram to compile
<AlexMarty[m]> I kinda want to disable the touch screen completely. Is there a way to do that or should I just unplug the digitizer
<clover[m]> y'all are insane. nothing better than lying supinated with your laptop on your chest scrolling through youtube comments at 4AM
<clover[m]> also windows 11 can emulate android apps!!11 fruit ninja anyone??
<clover[m]> although id be interested to see how much unplugging digitizer improves battery
<harvests[m]> my bios 1.19 updated fine
<clover[m]> that's good
<clover[m]> you used Vantage?
<steev> AlexMarty[m]: if you don't mind patching your kernel, you could simply comment out the touchscreen device in it. if you use something like sway, you can disable it in the config
<harvests[m]> clover[m]: yeah ended up using vantage
