<Manis[m]> Hi, I've been following this channel for a few days and have seen some X13s discussions. I'm thinking about buying one but am a bit worried about the Pluton chip. Did any of the X13s owners look into what the Pluton chip does and if it can be fully disabled?
<Manis[m]> Thanks in advance.
<dcz> Manis[m]: I don't know about Pluton, but Snapdragon chips in X13s have a locked boot loader, meaning that the TrustZone functionality is probably not controllable by the owner (am I right here?)
<dcz> and TrustZone is the equivalent of Intel ME/AMD PSP (closed, rootkitable, super-privileged code) https://resources.infosecinstitute.com/topic/rootkits-on-your-smartphone/
<dcz> okay, TrustZone doesn't have to be closed. The Librem 5 doesn't burn in any keys, so you can do whatever you want with TrustZone there
<Manis[m]> I was assuming that compiling and installing your own ATF wouldn't be a possibility on any "commercial" device.
<Manis[m]> I was trying to use a PineBook Pro as my primary laptop but all in all it's, well, a $200 laptop.

<Dylanger> Typically Chromebook devices are super open and let you do whatever

<Manis[m]> Is this still the case? I've just read recently that this has changed in the last few years. My last Chromebook was from 2014 and it was open indeed.
<Manis[m]> But typically the problem with Chromebooks is the limited storage if you don't want to have everything in the cloud.
