hm, looks like
<steev>
it's time for me to wipe windows
<steev>
ran updates and now it's just bluescreening instead of finishing the updates

steev: there are d-i questions for --no-nvram and --force-extra-removable in stable, should show up in expert mode, or automatically if /sys/firmware/efi/efivars/ is ro-mounted or doesn't have any BOOT variables
<alpernebbi>
if that's not enough to detect whatever weirdness x13s has then at least you have the option to set those by expert mode or from kernel cmdline

For Debian, as hinted at in the comments on my script, I personally concluded that DtbLoader is pointless. It duplicates what grub can already do with trivial scripting. I'm of the view that better install instructions would set up grub right instead.
<danielt>
Sure you can configure Debian not to break DtbLoader but what useful purpose does DtbLoader serve?

in a perfect world, the ubuntu patch(es) to expose the devicetree line in grub would be accepted, and we could all move on with our lives
<init_x13s>
been running the new bios (july 7) on the x13s for a couple of full work days now and it completely solves the keyboard issue some of us had. It's almost like getting a new piece of hardware.
<HdkR>
Oh fancy

the fix was originally included in bios 1.54 but they withdrew it.
<init_x13s>
the bios, not the fix.
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]>
init_x13s: I confirm. Now the pleasure is much and fast typing.
<init_x13s>
also considering not replacing the laptop
<init_x13s>
haha
<init_x13s>
it just feels overall less sloppy because of this. not that it sped up anything, but I don't feel that i need to wait for the machine anymore

here the work of the built-in microphone is not yet satisfactory, at cals people complain about interference. -(
<HdkR>
Is there a sane way to update the BIOS without running some exe?
<HdkR>
Looks like they had some bootable ISOs for older versions but that doesn't exist for the latest
<martiert>
on my x13s I upgraded to steevs 6.4.3 kernel yesterday, with this switch I can no longer view videos in firefox or chromium. They start loading, but just keeps spinning. Is there a change in firmware I'm missing from 6.3 to 6.4?
<Jasper[m]1>
<martiert> "on my x13s I upgraded to steevs..." <- Can you check if your sound works?
<martiert>
ooooh... I was sure I tested that aftr the upgrade, but now the sounds seems gone
<martiert>
do I need some non-upstream alsa-ucm-conf files?
<Jasper[m]1>
martiert: What Distro are you running?
<martiert>
nixos
<Jasper[m]1>
Ah well, I can send you a pkgbuild you might be able to translate to a nix package, one sec.
<Jasper[m]1>
This one should work, also gets regularly updated
<Jasper[m]1>
The git repo in the pkgbuild is also managed by the person that's getting the audio working
<Jasper[m]1>
They're in this chat too afaik
<martiert>
thanks
<Jasper[m]1>
No problem, let us know if you run into anything. I'm sure someone can help you with the specifics
<martiert>
I think making a nix package of this is will be simple, I had one previously for 6.3, but then those changes was upstreamed and I removed it. Should be easy to get back again
<martiert>
thanks Jasper[m]1 Getting the new alsa-ucm files fixed it :)
<Jasper[m]1>
No problem! I had the same symptoms when sound wasn't working. The solution ended up being something different but whatever.
<martiert>
now I'm just waiting for nixos upstream to get mesa to 23.1.4 currently in staging, so wondering if I should just grab it from there until it's in the unstable packages.
<steev>
Jasper[m]1: that's for 6.5 rc
<Jasper[m]1>
steev: Ah yes, you're right
<Jasper[m]1>
@martiert watch your headphone volume
<Jasper[m]1>
I forgot about that
<Jasper[m]1>
You might be better off going to 6.5rcsomething
<martiert>
yeah, I was wondering that. Might be making that change tomorrow
<martiert>
with 6.5 rc there's a kernel patch to not blow my headphones with those alsa-ucm-conf fixes?
<martiert>
and is that only wired headphones, or also bluetooth?
<Jasper[m]1>
<martiert> "and is that only wired headphone..." <- Just wired I think
<Jasper[m]1>
The config is specific to the x13's hw
<steev>
martiert: there is a patch, but you can also just turn the volume down
<steev>
and bluetooth is a separate unrelated volume
<clover[m]>
would you guys recommend lzo or zstd 4 for btrfs compression?
<clover[m]>
on an x13s specifically. it seems to be kinda slow with compression so i was thinking lzo
<HdkR>
Interesting, I never tested zstd compression perf on X13s
<clover[m]>
ended up choosing these options "defaults,compress=lzo,noatime,commit=120"
<clover[m]>
sticking closely with what endeavourOS does
<Jasper[m]1>
<clover[m]> "on an x13s specifically. it..." <- Did you enable acceleration for them in the kernel config? I thought I read that was a thing
<clover[m]>
idk, just installed eos though with no kinks onto my btrfs root (besides having to remove community repo lol)
