robclark changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Chrome OS Trogdor Devices - Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630 - Lenovo ThinkPad X13s - and various other snapdragon laptops) - https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/aarch64-laptops
<steev>
is that using johan's suggested kernel command line, or just the aspm patchset?
<steev>
or both
<HdkR>
That's using your lenovo-x13s-linux-6.5.y branch, so whatever that has
<steev>

i have luckily, never run into that here

First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone working on this stuff, specially to hexdump with his system images.
<push>
I've had a novago for years that I've fantasized about running linux on, I've tried a few images and had some success but there was always something that prevented it from being usable
<push>
has work on it mostly been abandoned? or does it still get some attention? I'm willing to be a guinea pig and am a linux admin by trade, but I am not a kernel developer
<steev>
hexdump0815: ^^
<steev>
i've no idea the status of the novago
<steev>
but if the basics of support are there in the kernel, it might works?

<_[m]1> "damn it, reboot loop again..." <- I kinda wanted to debug it, but I don't have a proper compiler set up :|
<Jasper[m]>
And if efi pstore would work it would've been even easier
<konradybcio>
just get clang, you can do make ARCH=arm64 LLVM=1
<konradybcio>
or make LLVM=1 if you're on a64
<Jasper[m]>
(persistent journalctl doesn't work)
<Jasper[m]>
konradybcio: Does compiling Linux work properly with clang? I thought it had some issues no?
<ardb>
Jasper[m]: it works fine for Android
<konradybcio>
just two or three compiler issues for the past 3 years for me
<konradybcio>
and Nathan Chancellor is very fast to fix them
<broonie>
It should be fine most of the time, distro/platform kernels for things that don't use clang themselves are the place you're most likely to see breakage.
<Jasper[m]>
Ah, well time to do some testing I guess

push: i think currently there is not much happening around novago anymore, but i think from postmarketos end there are some things happening for msm8998/sdm835 still for mobile phones using it

i still haven't added hdkr's request yet... back is better but now i'm sick heh. it's not covid at least, or the test is faulty

hexdump0815: Thanks dude! I tried that when you released it, I think everything worked except wifi and something else.

i need to give building 6.5 a try, i just havent had a chance
<push>
i keep watch on ebay for a cheap x13s to pop up, that sounds like the best best to fulfill my dream a fully functional arm64 laptop

push: what price do you consider cheap?
<Stirl[m]>
I would really like to sell it to someone who is going to use it to help with the development of the linux experience on arm. I thought I was going to but I just don't have time and I just need a laptop that works
<Stirl[m]>
I haven't had a lot of luck with the linux experience and windows on arm is not really sitting well with me
<Libre____>
push: same..

Stirl[m]: iso or ansi?

ansi

shipping to us would be preferable

I've been bidding on anything below $450, there are several going for ~$520 right now, considering what they cost new im shocked at the depriciation
<HdkR>
I wouldn't be surprised if people accidentally buy it, thinking it is an x86 device
<push>
thats actually probably exactly whats going on, i have a galaxy book go, and if you look at the reviews, theyre horrible and you can get fully functional ones for like $100
<push>
i suspect people just download the same installers with no regard to architecure, conclude that it runs like crap and get rid of it

but if youre diligent about getting the right binaries, they run great and have awesome battery life, even the old novago
<steev>
end users and not paying attention, name a more iconic duo
<Libre____>
Stirl[m]: ah, would like an iso one...
<push>
i'd hope tech reviewers would know the difference, but if you look up reviews for the galaxy book go you'll get stuff like "galactic disappointment" "youre better off with a chromebook" and "the laptop that tests your patience"
