<Caterpillar> any updates on EL2 support for Thinkpad X13s?
<HdkR> Never gonna happen
<Caterpillar> HdkR: source of this info?
<Dantheman825[m]> what's EL2 again?
<HdkR> Caterpillar: Qualcomm is pushing Gunyah instead. Which may or may not eventually work on X13s
<Caterpillar> it's needed for virtualization
<Dantheman825[m]> ah
<Dantheman825[m]> right, vms don't quite work on a lot of Snapdragons
<Caterpillar> Dantheman825[m]: and meanwhile we have a fully supported Fedora for Apple Silicon with fully working virtualization https://fedoramagazine.org/introducing-fedora-asahi-remix-39 which is hilarius since Thinkpad historically were the laptops with better Linux support
<dgilmore> Jasper[m]: while on boot I am getting random mac addresses, NetworkManager is setting stable per Network MAC addresses here
<robclark> Caterpillar: tbf if you are only looking at delta from upstream kernel, I think x13s does have better linux support. EL2 isn't strictly needed for virtualization (think xen vs kvm style virt.. what qc[1] gunyah stuff is more like xen) [1] note, qc chromebooks do boot in el2
<Caterpillar> robclark: I had the X13s till a few months ago when I decided to sell it. Its Linux support was not even comparable to the one that Asahi Linux provides to Apple Silicon
<Caterpillar> and there was no way to start a VM
<robclark> you're comparing essentially a vendor kernel to mainline
