<bluetail96>
do you mean standby?
<bluetail96>
cuz hibernation can't be what you mean, cause thats a legacy feature
<blackMysticCat>
not suspend2idle, not hibernating... I think its called suspend to RAM?
<bluetail96>
no, thats straight up "standby"
<bluetail96>
to answer your question, I do not know it
blackMysticCat has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<bluetail96>
mps honestly I am disappointed that I cannot yet make statements that are indisputable. I do not like making statements that are false. I wrote down the method and hope it returns to me whatever is available to me.
<bluetail96>
But... I really thought standby was suspend to memory
<mps>
well, suspend could be freeze, mem and disk
<mps>
but you are right, terminology is not always clear
<mps>
version independent, I think it follows current development versions

I see that the recent blog posts are about GPU support, but have there been any changes with external monitor support? and how about M2 Max support? are people working on those and are there certain important milestones?
<bdju>
(I am looking at the link in the topic but with every model having some WIP/TBA stuff it's not very clear what's needed for some things)
leitao has joined #asahi
<ayke_>
External display support and M2 pro/max support are related. Both need DisplayPort/Thunderbolt support (if I understand correctly).
<bdju>
oh interesting. I didn't realize that
<bdju>
so is something different that makes it more important in the new models?
<ayke_>
That's how I understand it, yes
<bdju>
thank you for the info
<opticron>
bdju, also just FYI, the devs doing the reverse engineering get full access to the video pipeline, so external display support isn't directly tied to GPU support unlike traditional video cards would have you believe
<bdju>
ah yeah, I was more mentioning GPU support to say I can see they're working on other things but I'm not sure about the non-gpu things being worked on
<opticron>
video encode/decode acceleration is also separate hardware that is not directly tied to either subsystem
<opticron>
👍
<bdju>
I like to use a laptop docked with external monitors/keyboard and such so the external display support is pretty important to me as far as making one of these a daily driver. of course gpu support will be good, but I think a lot of things would run okay compared to my older machine just because of the better CPU already

Having an issue: I recently upgraded my Asahi install, rebooted, and the keyboard & mouse at the KDE login screen doesn't work anymore at all. Not even external mouse/keyboard, and only on the KDE login screen. Everything else (tty at multi-user.target, grub, u-boot) I tested works.
<jacksonchen666>
jannau: `pacman -S --asdep libinput` didn't seem to change anything (pacman said it was a reinstall). Did try to reboot, still nope.

<ChaosPrincess>
to idle
<jannau>
there is somewhat broken but working suspend2idle in the edge kernel
<blackMysticCat>
Is to RAM being worked on? I think I tried s2idle but it didn't even last one night

okay, cool. do you have any idea how I would go about doing something like that? Should I use disk utility on macOS or some partition tool on asahi?

mps: all i see are talks about libinput and xf86-input-libinput not being in sync but they're in sync on my system and it's "working", it just reverted to the huge palm exclusion zones as before and the cursor is stopping every 2 seconds it's horrible

i resurected my old patch and upgraded it to 1.23 and now it works just fine
<kit_ty_kate3>
Looking at my pacman logs it looks like i always had my patched version of libinput and pacman just stopped telling me i had a too recent version when the asahi bumped their packages to the same version.
<kit_ty_kate3>
But that does raise more questions for me, I'm curious, how do people use their 16" MBP without it though? Does anyone have a 16" here?
