<as400> just upgraded to 6.5.0-asahi-3-1-edge. Battery widget in plasma is saying "0:33 remaining" while the battery is 80% charged. "Remaining" never changes. It was working before. Seen this in also in Fedora. Anyone with similar problem ?

<pitust> is there some way to download a macOS base system (or at least all the kernel extension) from linux?
<ChaosPrincess> don't bother unless you absolutely have to, just do it from macos
<janneg> don't we save the kernelcache in $ESP/asahi/
<ChaosPrincess> yea, that could be a way, i was just thinking of ripping apart ipsw/InstallAssistant.pkg/Kdk dmgs

<Iknowed> one thing that I miss from my pre-mac unix/linux days going back to SunOS 4.1.3 was selecting with the left button and pasting with the middle button on the three button mouse. is there a trackpad gesture on asahi linux to do that middle button paste?
<pitust> the touchbar seems to flicker white under linux every some time
<pitust> it works just fine under macos
<pitust> and its mildly annoyi ng

<ellyq> IknoweD: Not sure if it's implemented, but... three finger tap?
<PaulFertser> IknoweD: with Wayland all touchpads are handled by libinput, and middle mouse click is emulated by three-fingers tap there by default. In many popular terminal emulators pasting from selection is also mapped to Shift-Insert.
Zeroine has joined #asahi
<PaulFertser> https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Libinput contains useful information, keep in mind both Xorg and Wayland are using the same libinput library.

<janneg> leio: your missing CONFIG_TYPEC_TPS6598X for usb-c, not sure why pcie fails, please post a complete kernel log
<janneg> pcie probably misses GPIO_MACSMC check for further MACSMC options
<leio> checking, https://dpaste.com/GAP3A68MJ is the full log from picocom
<leio> yup, adding a bunch of MACSMC as builtin
<leio> needs something further :(
<leio> it tries to load the firmware before it's there or something
<leio> or maybe misreading - https://dpaste.com/4RBR3AK87
<leio> maybe needing a EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR? But I'd expect to have had that then in the fedora asahi remix config
<leio> nope, that's if building things into the kernel image
<janneg> I think it can't be built-in
<leio> which module does the firmware loading there?
<janneg> CONFIG_USB_XHCI_PCI that is or you need to enable the deferred firmware loading which is very annoying for wifi
<leio> that's builtin in fedora asahi config already too
<leio> I can't spot anything for this deferred stuff
<janneg> that works then only because u-boot loads the firmware in that case
<janneg> CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER
<leio> I see re u-boot
<leio> CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER was already enabled
<leio> janneg: me copying the firmware over LAN to build it into the kernel temporarily would be kosher by Apple? :)
<j`ey> leio: as long as you dont redistribute it

<leio> janneg: I'm in Fedora, thanks a lot! Of course after all this, the natural question is - can I get a higher resolution than 1920x1080 and where are things with GPU for these? :)
<janneg> m1n1 can configure other display resolutions with an attached variable like 'display=3840x2160@60', gpu needs linux display driver which is not ready
ten1572377432 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
ten1572377432 has joined #asahi
<leio> janneg: thanks, I'll try the resolution tomorrow; let me know if I can test anything re gpu or otherwise, or be a coding slave of some sort (but probably hard to be useful that way), especially in areas scratching my itches too
<leio> I hope lack of HDMI audio is just about getting the kernel vs initramfs sorted, not something that needs more work
vmeson has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<janneg> hdmi audio depends as well on a working display driver. haven't tried it yet on a m2* device
<kaazoo> Hi janneg, regarding FW updates for existing users you wrote in March "unofficially: backup the ESP (and your data), delete stub and efi partition, make an uefi-only install with 13.5, restore the ESP content and deal with the changed part uuid of the ESP". Is this still valid? Has there been any attempts to document or automate this? I only found https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki/Open-OS-Ecosystem-on-Apple-Silic
<kaazoo> rovisioning with a bit more background info.
<kaazoo> OK, after a bit more digging, I found this: https://tg.st/u/upgrade_stub.txt

<jb1277976> What i really like about linux is that when you want something you have to do reasearch and once you find the answer and it works its satisfiying :P mac just works lol
