<novafacing9926> Ah I guess I mean s2ram (I am not particularly versed in suspend modes, usually just throw hibernate on)
<novafacing9926> But that does explain the battery drain, would definitely be nice to improve that since it will end up being quite bad for long term battery health to either plug in always or to have it drain so quickly every day
<PaulFertser> You can enable the option to limit the charge to 80 % (and another to shutdown before it's deeply discharged).
<PaulFertser> Also, you should be able use powertop to see what apps are guilty of waking up your system all the time, that affects the battery life drastically.

<novafacing9926> Thanks for the tips!
cobralt^ has joined #asahi
<novafacing9926> re: 80% limiter -- I see some folks were chatting about it the other day but what's your recommended method to enable? (or maybe I am just missing a kernel param)
<PaulFertser> iirc it was exposed in KDE settings
<PaulFertser> Also even though s2ram doesn't work s2idle does, and s2idle ensures all the userspace is stopped and so power consumption should be quite minimal in that state, have you actually measured and came to the conclusion it's not enough for you?

<j`ey> PaulFertser: they have, said it drains 90% overnight

<PaulFertser> j`ey: that shouldn't be possible with s2idle, right? novafacing9926 should file a ticket with all the details about the system so that the devs could reproduce.
<j`ey> I can't remember what other people have gotten for sleep, but yeah, it sounds high, maybe it's a Pro version which seems to have a higher idle power draw than the 'normal' ones
<PaulFertser> Still insane compared to 30 hours running with ssh in the background...

<holiday> there are many distros(ubuntu, pop_os, kali, etc) that can boot natively on arm macs thanks to the asahi team, I have a question tho, even though these distros work natively on arm hardware they dont have functional gpu drivers and desktop optimizations right?
<holiday> like those that fedora asahi have
<leio> some do have some of it; there's #asahi-alt for deeper discussion
<holiday> ohh that's interesting thanks, i will check the channel tommorrow since im going to sleep now

<chadmed> the repo does though
<axboe> chadmed: I'm using your git repo
<chadmed> oh cool ok
<axboe> don't see any 416 in there though?
<axboe> maybe I'm using an old repo...
<leio> I think that assumes speaker is there?
<chadmed> axboe: oh no i mean the UCM files
<axboe> ahh
<axboe> I'll check thanks
<chadmed> also asahi-audio has moved to AsahiLinux, and sed s/j316/j416/g should do what you need :)

<axboe> (I had a modified dtb before with speakers enabled)
<axboe> what's the "new" scheme for updating the dtb now? I used to just generate the boot.bin with the m1n1 and u-boot payload, and the dtb I needed
balrog has joined #asahi
<j`ey> axboe: same old
<j`ey> (update-m1n1 is the script people use)
<axboe> guess I need that script, had my own janky one
<axboe> where can I find this script?
<axboe> thanks
<j`ey> check lines 16 onwards
<j`ey> some variables you'll want to override
<axboe> hmm looks like the same thing
<axboe> no idea why my boot.bin just causes a reboot then

<j`ey> nope since m1n1 reads it
<axboe> ok
<axboe> still didn't solve my speaker issue then, that's odd
<axboe> only getting the headphone route
<j`ey> are you passing the command line option? I thin thats still needed
<axboe> I'm booting the same kernel as I had on the m1, and it sets the blow_up_my_speakers thing to true
