ChanServ changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630)
<steev> derzahl: if you wanna play with it... i pushed more to 5.12 - i added in the lmh driver (v3), which should give a performance boost
<steev> i'm getting similar numbers to what was reported in the email
<steev> actually slightly better

<derzahl> steev: wow, 30-70% improvement in cpu performance? hell yeh ill try it out
<steev> it seems fairly stable on 5.12, i can't recommend 5.13+ currently

<steev> i've only done it with =y, it should accept =m but i'm not sure why you would
<derzahl> what are you on currently. 5.12.?
<derzahl> 5.12.19?
<steev> yeah
<steev> what i pushed is what i'm using
<steev> on both of them; one using the distro_defconfig, the other using the config i pastebinned (with QCOM_LMH=y )
<derzahl> sweet. downloading it now. can just take my working .config and enable QCOM_LMH?
<steev> should be able to yeah
<derzahl> i think ill compile it twice. once on zfs and once on ext4
<steev> also, make sure you're using config_hz_1000 - you should be
<derzahl> zfs seems a bit more sluggish than i was expecting
<derzahl> but then again, im paying more attention to speed:)
<derzahl> so i want something objective
<derzahl> yeh i am
<steev> fwiw... i've been using (on the other c630) ext4's build in encryption for my homedir rather than the full thing
<steev> i need to see if shawn's commit to disable the qce is still valid
<derzahl> did you notice a large slowdown from luks?
<steev> i don't use luks, i use fscrypt -
<steev> the main disadvantage of the homedir encryption is can't ssh in until i actually log in to the system
<derzahl> for the whole thing?
<derzahl> i assumed you were saying at one time you had the whole disk encrypted but switched
<steev> nah, i never bothered with fde, definitely not on development systems
<steev> just home dir, and then i also have various directories in my home dir that are also encrypted (various clients info and so forth)
<steev> it's *enabled* so i likely could, i just haven't
<derzahl> ah, i always do fde (minus /boot) these days because the overhead is negligable
<derzahl> at least on PCs
<derzahl> but from my testing on the rpi4, i expect it to be the same with the c630
<steev> should be faster on the c630 because ufs
<derzahl> rpi4 handles zfs encryption and even zstd compression like a champ
<derzahl> well im using 6xSATA-SSD raidz on the rpi4
<steev> i need to look at shawn's commit as i mentioned - https://github.com/steev/linux/commit/4f130bf41a63d575bfeb09694b63ccd965822595
<steev> yeah on usb
<derzahl> not sure how the ufs compares to SATA-SSDs
<derzahl> no, on pcie
<derzahl> 1x
<steev> my config has it enabled
<steev> oh nice
<steev> and i haven't seen the issue - so i may try reverting that - it shouldn't effect you
<derzahl> yeh, i have it as a module
<derzahl> doesnt look like its loaded tho
<derzahl> unless it doesnt have 'qce' in the module name
<derzahl> oh, i guess qcrypto is loaded, i think thats it
<derzahl> what does it do?
<derzahl> is it just supposed to cause problems with the lmh driver?
<derzahl> oh, looks like hardware encryption support
<derzahl> yeh, i definietly want to keep that:)
<steev> no
<steev> i know that the ext4 encyrption will use it, i have no idea if zfs's encryption will
<derzahl> it will for sure
<derzahl> aes-256-gcm
<derzahl> found a good section of the kernel to prune that i apparently havent touched though
<steev> it might be disabled because of the flex 5g
<derzahl> is that what shawn has?
<steev> pretty sure he has a boe display c630 and a flex 5g
<derzahl> oh ok. will be interesting to hear if he had problems on just one or both
<steev> i'm about to try it, because why not
<derzahl> i thought you said that it was already enabled in your config and you didnt have any panics on the c630?
<steev> that's on the other c630
<steev> there are slight difference between the two - e.g. on the other one, like you found out, i need to use efi=novamap on it
<steev> because i ddon't use dtbloader there, and just do the dtb in grub (because it was initially based on ubuntu)
<derzahl> compiled your 5.12.19 on encrypted/compressed zfs in 34m35s. now gonna compile on ext4
<derzahl> then ill compile again after booted into 5.12.19 and see what i get
<derzahl> im not a benchmarking guru by any means, but i always liked the kernel compile benchmark for testing cpu or storage speed
<derzahl> seem simple and efficient
<derzahl> maybe theres something better though
iivanov has quit []
<steev> i just ran what they suggested in the email introducing it
<steev> huh
<steev> it does indeed error out
<steev> ah
<steev> on my working config i have CRYPTO_MANAGER_DISABLE_TESTS set
<steev> easy enough to do
<macc24> has anyone got bluetooth audio to work on lazor?
<macc24> or bluetooth at all
