<_merk> hi
<_merk> i managed to install archlinuxarm on a vivobook s snapdragon x elite
<_merk> everything works except the sound, bluetooth and battery monitor etc
<_merk> i tried adding https://github.com/anonymix007/x1e-firmware/tree/master/firmware/qcom/x1e80100/ASUSTeK/vivobook-s15 to /lib/firmware but then the kernel get stuck booting
<_merk> i am running 6.13.0-rc2
<_merk> do i have a version mismatch or what? if so where can i get some matching firmware?
chrisl has joined #aarch64-laptops
<_merk> if not.. how am i stuck?
nothorseface has joined #aarch64-laptops
<_merk> nothorseface: holla from .au

<_merk> oh i just found linux-firmware-qcom arch package. might help...
<steev> the files can be found in windows (no idea if they're on asus' website), assuming it's the vivobook s15, they should work though, when you say the kernel gets stuck, stuck in what way
<nothorseface> good day.
<_merk> steev: i'll take a photo and report back the info

<_merk> steev: i'm typing this by hand
<_merk> i'm seeing prints from the kernel like
<_merk> platform 6aa0000.codec: deffered probe pending: platform supplier 6d44000.codec not ready
<_merk> and pinctrl defferred probe pending: qcom-sm8550-lpass-lpi-pinctrl: Failed to get clk 'core
<_merk> unable to get macro clock
<_merk> sfstemd-coredump pipe failed
<_merk> maybe it's because my loader has clk_ignore_unused as a kernel boot option?
<_merk> tahht didn'tt help removing that
<_merk> now i get also usci_glink.pmic_glink_ucsi pmic_glink.ucs.0: PPM init failed, stop trying
<steev> https://github.com/jhovold/linux/wiki/T14s probably need to find something like this (but the boot args probably need to be the same)
alfredo has joined #aarch64-laptops
<_merk> i'm using systemd-boot with dtbloader fwiw-
<_merk> it also switches the root sda to sdb if i load the firmwares
<_merk> i think that has part to do with mhy it fails cos it cant find root anymore
alfredo has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<JensGlathe[m]> booting from type-c? Loading firmwares and q6v5_pas could be the culprit. Load them from initramfs should circumvent this

<SpieringsAE> _merk: are you running the mainline 6.13-rc2 without external patches? because bluetooth not working would be expected in that case
<SpieringsAE> I have a couple of patches on the mailing list, one is bluetooth, but that one depends on another patch getting merged first, so I don't know how long it will take for that to get into mainline
<SpieringsAE> the gpu enablement patch also doesn't seem to have made it into 6.13 aswell as the patch to allow modifying efivars
<SpieringsAE> (yet)
martiert has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<_merk> yeh no patches
<_merk> when you say gpu enablement what do you mean?
<_merk> i have gnome working
<SpieringsAE> hmm, the mainline dtsi doesn't have the gpu enabled yet
<_merk> but i have'nt checked any mesa/gl stuff
<_merk> i got it from linaro
<_merk> i can't mod efivars thats true
<_merk> and i'm no bluetooth yet...
<SpieringsAE> maybe some software rendering took over for gnome?
<_merk> how would i check?
<SpieringsAE> I know that hyprland did not want to start without gpu support on my alarm install
<_merk> yeah enlightement wont start with wayland or X
<_merk> i'm going to ask raster about it when he gets up
<SpieringsAE> maybe check dmesg with like `dmesg | grep gpu`
<SpieringsAE> bamse: is my gpu enablement patch making it into 6.13 or has it been postponed to 6.14?
<_merk> all it says is some mem reserve stuff and a warning cpu: drivers/gpu/drm/panel/panel-edp.c:814 generic_edp_panel_probe+8x1e8/0x1f8
<_merk> i'm going to try the firmwares now that i have moved to the nvme from an usb stick
<SpieringsAE> pretty sure there should be something like `loading firmware or something`
<_merk> SpieringsAE: yeah i'm aware of that repo
<_merk> OK
<_merk> it works now
<SpieringsAE> you can add this to your sources, it has a kernel that has gpu enabled and efivars for the vivobook
<SpieringsAE> nice good stuff
<_merk> it was something to do with the usb stick
<_merk> i have battery monitor now, i'll check the rest now
<_merk> glxgears works
<_merk> 1640.189 FPS
<_merk> do i just need device tree entries for bluetooth to work?
<_merk> i still have no sound
<SpieringsAE> think so yeah, I should really push my changes to github somewhere
<SpieringsAE> yeah sound Im not touching
<SpieringsAE> only bluetooth audio for me till someone who knows what theyre doing looks at it
<_merk> bluebooth would do
<SpieringsAE> don't want to blow up my speakers/amp
<_merk> for sound
<_merk> SpieringsAE: please let me know if you post for work
<SpieringsAE> yeah Ive just arrived at work so it wont be till like 10 hours from now
<_merk> i'll just have finished my mental health tribunal by then and be free from the psyche ward
<_merk> i can't wait
<_merk> i'm patient.
<_merk> oh wait.. that's 20 hours away
<_merk> 10 hours will be middle of the night for me

<dgilmore> my only experience is the t14s. But I can believe its a Qualcomm firmware bug
<dgilmore> mostly curious if there is some path to get the issues fixed. masking off ram is an ugly hack
<maz> looks like the devkit FW keeps a counter of the number of boots... I'm already on #401...
<tobhe> I am carefully optimistic that it will get fixed in a future firmware update

<bamse> SpieringsAE: i'm sorry, but it got punted to v6.14... i merged a couple of other patches together with that, and as i was about to send out the last 6.13 pull request i learned that they broke things, and there wasn't sufficient time left to resolve that
<bamse> SpieringsAE: they are in the for-next branch, and will be part of v6.14
<SpieringsAE> no problem of course, maybe some of my other patches can make it in by then aswell, but given the season maybe not
<bamse> the season that's full of joy and time off for hacking? ;)
<SpieringsAE> for me it full of stress and family stuf :(

<macc24> god i should get around to the ec stuff
<SpieringsAE> I'll clean up and add the patches for usb-a and the ps8830 retimers some other day, maybe tomorrow
<JensGlathe[m]> does external DP work?
<SpieringsAE> havent tested it yet tbh I dont have any usbc -> display adapters
<SpieringsAE> maybe I'll take it to work tomorrow, we have some docks there
<JensGlathe[m]> I tried on HP X14 aand... nope
<SpieringsAE> hmm thats unfortunate
<JensGlathe[m]> only tested direct type-c cable, but that should be the easiest
<JensGlathe[m]> haven't looked, but is the link training with redriver implemented / on the list?
<SpieringsAE> I saw some improvement but I believe it is still limited to two lanes
<JensGlathe[m]> even two lanes would be something
