Fun fact: The keyboard backlight on the vivobook can use more power than the screen filled with white at full brightness vs. a black screen

Hey, I'm trying to get stock Debian trixie running on a (32 GiB) Thinkpad T14s Gen 6 Snapdragon.
<zcatlin>
I was able (with some tinkering of kernel command lines and a DTB, as well as avoiding HW probes that caused the system to freeze) to get Debian Installer to install to disk. However, I'm not getting past GRUB on the installed system.
<zcatlin>
Judging from debug logs, it's loading the kernel, initrd, and devicetree, but then something fails.
<macc24>
they should make arm64 laptops with weights so that you can feel by weight of your backpack/bag if you have your laptop or not
<JensGlathe[m]>
bad?
<macc24>
huh?
<kuruczgy[m]>
I guess she means that it's difficult to notice if someone steals your laptop because you just don't feel the weight
<JensGlathe[m]>
My guess was it's not there but it should be
<macc24>
i keep forgetting whether i have my laptop with me or not and get stressed out when i feel that my bag is suspiciously light
<macc24>
>_> one time i forgot about my lazor in my backpack for a week, while taking said backpack to my work
<macc24>
a 100wh battery would be nice
<macc24>
extra weight *and* extra battery life

konradybcio: if I want to use your patch in 20241028-topic-cpu_suspend_s2ram-v1-0-9fdd9a04b75c@oss.qualcomm.com, is there more to do to propagate the suspend state to different components?
<anthony25>
you wrote in your patch that if it was approved, you would push a follow-up for qualcomm SoCs
<SpieringsAE>
macc24: there is a lenovo x1p laptop with an 82wh battery, don't you have that one JensGlathe?
<anthony25>
I mean I understand it's not gonna happen as it was NACKed 2 months ago, but the reasons it got NACKed don't apply to me by using this only on my laptop, so if it can place me on the way to trim the power drain in suspend…
<SpieringsAE>
my asus is also nice with 70Wh but it still only weighs 1.4 kg, its literally a kilogram lighter than my previous 15.6 inch, and a whoooole lot faster lol
<JensGlathe[m]>
yeah ThinkBook 16 G7, but its with x1p42100, so not yet Linux. It hat 84Wh battery.
<JensGlathe[m]>
1,8kgs
<JensGlathe[m]>
and a nice set of peripherals, 2x type-c, 2x type-a, HDMI, SDHC, Phone jack
<SpieringsAE>
ay same as the vivobook
<SpieringsAE>
I wonder how the sdhc is hooked up on that one
<SpieringsAE>
if it is actually sdhc, usb adapter or pcie adapter
<travmurav[m]>
does it have sd express? :^)
<JensGlathe[m]>
no idea, it has a sd card slot
<JensGlathe[m]>
is that with these extra contacts? I could try
<travmurav[m]>
considering nidnt is dead, the sd-express is probably the most fun one
<travmurav[m]>
free pcie gen1 x1 :^)
<travmurav[m]>
and no iommu if you run linux in el1 :^)
<SpieringsAE>
youcan check in windows, in device manager
<SpieringsAE>
in mine it is there as a usb thingy
<JensGlathe[m]>
will do
<SpieringsAE>
is microsd or full size sd? I guess micro
<JensGlathe[m]>
full size
<SpieringsAE>
oooh
