asahilover[m]: if you didn't found backlog in short: file /sys/class/power_supply/macsmc-battery/charge_behaviour is what controls charge/discharge
<mps>
writing to it three options controls behavior
<mps>
options/parameters are, auto, inhibit-charge and force-discharge
<mps>
for example `echo force-discharge > /sys/class/power_supply/macsmc-battery/charge_behaviour` will discharge battery even when machine is on power supply
<mps>
it can be easily adapted/tweaked according to your needs

if anyone with a 14" or 16" has enabled their audio, ive made a ton of fixes to the FIRs i published a couple of months ago: https://github.com/chadmed/asahi-audio
<chadmed>
ive tamed the tweeters and the woofers are now more clear, so if youre using the old ones clone the repo again and reinstall for a better experience :)
<chadmed>
this is about as good as these machines are going to get in terms of audio quality

<gsora[m]>
the fact that you're using impulse response makes this project even cooler
<gsora[m]>
i thought those were only used in guitar amp modeling lol
<chadmed>
nah theyre used everywhere for DSP these days, theyre a (relatively) computationally cheap way of implementing various types of audio processing when you dont have fixed function hardware for it like in a digital mixing console or similar
<chadmed>
i mean even when you do have DSP hardware, theyre just a nice way of modelling stuff like room correction and EQ and so are the default way to do it now in most settings
<chadmed>
of course the user in most cases will be presented with a skeuomorph of a GEQ/PEQ/delay unit but under the hood youll just be tweaking an IR
<gsora[m]>
ah I see
<gsora[m]>
i remember the guitar community went nuts when IRs went mainstream
<gsora[m]>
i'm sure there is people out there selling badly recorded IRs made from physical amps
<gsora[m]>
cool stuff btw, I'll give asahi-audio a try when i have time
<chadmed>
...selling them?
<gsora[m]>
yeah
<chadmed>
surely the venn diagram of people who would pay for an IR and people who buy the unison midi pack is a perfect circle
<vaporhare>
well that's good to hear -- haven't actually installed yet but will be doing so soon!
<vaporhare>
I'm actually just getting back into desktop linux after a pretty long break. Hadn't been on arch since the rc init days but I heard about the new archinstall script and decided to give it a whirl. good stuff.

<ElvishJerricco[m]>
What are the odds that we'll eventually be able to enable TSO for a particular process on asahi? Now that Apple has released a rosetta for linux thing, it'd be cool to run that on asahi and enable TSO only for that process (using it the way you're supposed to with hypervisor.framework puts the whole VM into TSO mode)
<j`ey>
hard to say if the linux maintainers would take it upstream
<ElvishJerricco[m]>
Why's that? It's not like enabling TSO on the hardware has any licensing constraints
<ElvishJerricco[m]>
The rosetta binary might, but that's not linux's concern
<j`ey>
because it's non-architectural
<ElvishJerricco[m]>
Forgive my ignorance; why does that matter?
<j`ey>
for example maz has said that he doesnt want to use any non-architectural features in kvm, so the other maintainers may feel the same way
<j`ey>
because it's undocmented behaviour
<MichaelMesser[m]>
Why does it matter if it is upstreamed?
<j`ey>
it doesn't really, if you dont mind patching, in which case I don't think it's a massive task
<ElvishJerricco[m]>
Wait what does it have to do with kvm? Or was that just an example?
<MichaelMesser[m]>
Just an example of something specific to Apple Silicon
