<JimmyWoods[m]> hi
<JimmyWoods[m]> How do i reset and remove all of the partitions the script made
<JimmyWoods[m]> It failed to download actual Asahi and is showing Unable to boot bc it cant find the partition
<JimmyWoods[m]> it has 46GB free which is the entire amount i pretty much set
<JimmyWoods[m]> so its empty
<JimmyWoods[m]> ]
<tpw_rules> JimmyWoods[m]: https://github.com/tpwrules/nixos-m1/blob/main/docs/uefi-standalone.md#nixos-uninstallation just replace "nixos" with "asahi" as you read
<tpw_rules> if you want to try again, you can skip the final resizeContainer step and just use the installer to install into the free space
<JimmyWoods[m]> <tpw_rules> "Jimmy Woods: https://github.com..." <- thanks
<JimmyWoods[m]> uk whatd be cool
<JimmyWoods[m]> using Linux to boot Windows with very very little overhead
<JimmyWoods[m]> <tpw_rules> "Jimmy Woods: https://github.com..." <- i just copy and pasted the example commands
<JimmyWoods[m]> and they worked just fine
<JimmyWoods[m]> thanks
<tpw_rules> please don't do that. like the warning says they are kind of random. you're lucky you didn't accidentally delete your macos install
<JimmyWoods[m]> tpw_rules: nah i made sure to check, using diskutil list
<tpw_rules> okay
<JimmyWoods[m]> I wasnt a complete idiot when doing it
<JimmyWoods[m]> tpw_rules: Oh its a blank install anyway
<JimmyWoods[m]> and I have two Macbook Airs
<JimmyWoods[m]> so i should be okay if i screw up that bad

<JimmyWoods[m]> hello my install still wont work
<JimmyWoods[m]> It keeps saying that the boot device cant be found
<JimmyWoods[m]> I have booted into Asahi as told for the first time and it came up with the MacOS Recovery, ran the second part of the install etc
<JimmyWoods[m]> and when it restarts it just says its not found a bootable partition
<JimmyWoods[m]> ive ran the script twice
<JimmyWoods[m]> ill try one last time
<j`ey> JimmyWoods[m]: is your macos install 13.x?
<JimmyWoods[m]> <j`ey> "Jimmy Woods: is your macos..." <- yes
<j`ey> JimmyWoods[m]: 13.x broke some of asahis code, you will need to wait a bit
<JimmyWoods[m]> its MacOS 13 Ventura
<JimmyWoods[m]> j`ey: alr ill just focus on GTA IV for now then
<JimmyWoods[m]> CrossOver works really great on M1 Air
<JimmyWoods[m]> <j`ey> "Jimmy Woods: is your macos..." <- has anyone tried Rosetta on Asahi
<JimmyWoods[m]> well shitttttt
<JimmyWoods[m]> CrossOver is also broken on MacOS 13
<j`ey> dunno. it works on other arm cpus, so it should on asahi
<JimmyWoods[m]> now me cant boot GTA IV
<JimmyWoods[m]> it refuses to boot
<j`ey> but an open source solution like fex emu is better
<JimmyWoods[m]> j`ey: im still shocked about how open the M1 chip is
<JimmyWoods[m]> I figured it was Apple blocking windows
<JimmyWoods[m]> but its the other way aroun
<JimmyWoods[m]> s/aroun/around/
<j`ey> Apple said they were open to windows on m1 years ago!
<JimmyWoods[m]> j`ey: well I didnt know that lol
<JimmyWoods[m]> I didnt own one
<JimmyWoods[m]> until recently
<JimmyWoods[m]> now i discovered its not Apple
<JimmyWoods[m]> As Apple helped Parallels with the Hypervisor
<_jannau_> I wonder if "being open to windows" includes providing HW documention to MS (after an agreement). if not it's not really being open
<JimmyWoods[m]> id prefer running Windows on bare metal
<JimmyWoods[m]> compared to vms
<JimmyWoods[m]> VMs are kinda slow
<j`ey> _jannau_: they will point them at linux and our wiki :P

<kaprests> How is the discussion regarding the suggested changes to handling of PSCI calls by the Linux kernel? Is there any simple way to try and follow the kernel work that is related to Asahi only?
<j`ey> there's been no more discussion since the initial one on irc, a patch was made for psci via efi, which I made a hacky prototype from in m1n1/uboot, but thats it so far
<maz> kaprests: the discussion hasn't really started yet.
<kaprests> Oh okay I see

<derzahl> j`ey: Update on zfsbootmenu: didnt work after the compiling the kernel with the first patch suggested. I see you also posted a link right before I rebooted to test: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/arch/arm64/kernel/machine_kexec.c#L70 How would you suggest modifying line 71? Just remove the whole 'if statement'?
<povik> just a check. when you built with that patch, did you enable KEXEC_HACK as a config option?
<povik> it should have asked you at start of the build, after your applied the patch
<povik> could be also you are missing something else in .config that makes kexec not work...
<derzahl> no, i dont recall seeing anything about KEXEC_HACK
<povik> ah. so was the patch the one i linked or some other?

<derzahl> povik: i dont remember who suggested modifying this https://github.com/AsahiLinux/linux/blob/asahi/arch/arm64/kernel/smp.c#L1102
<derzahl> but he didnt mention what to change, and I rebooted to test the first change right as he mentioned the second file/line to look at
<derzahl> so Im all ready to compile with BOTH of the suggested changes, as well as any other modifications you or others think may do the trick
<Lucy[m]> Is there any reason you want to use zfsbootmenu so badly?
<j`ey> derzahl: so you changed num_possible_cpus to num_online_cpus?
<j`ey> the machine_kexec.c file I linked as as a source of the error, not a place to make a change?
* j`ey afk back to watching a film
<derzahl> j`ey: yes, that was the only change
<derzahl> Lucy[m]: consistancy I guess. I use it on my other systems now, and I would prefer not to have a separate zfs boot partition to use bootenv's with grub. I also had issues even booting zfs regularly on asahi using the standard initcpio hooks - but I dont recall what they were right now
<Lucy[m]> Well, that's a fair point. But seeing as kexec itself doesn't work properly right now, maybe it's better to just wait a little?
<Lucy[m]> Rather than hacking on it.
<derzahl> Lucy[m]: seeming that way. If j`ey, povik or others have no further suggestions then I will give up
<povik> derzahl: my bad. i thought you applied this: https://github.com/povik/linux/commit/54b5c6823b5f52ef3c98a803cf515b46d009511e
<povik> that's why i asked about KEXEC_HACK
derzahl has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Lucy[m]> I mean, that'll probably work. Not so sure it's a good idea, though
derzahl has joined #asahi
<derzahl> povik: ah no. dont think ive seen that. I was only trying to force the kernel to see one processor
<derzahl> adding that patch worth a try?
<povik> it worked at the time. if you insist on trying patches...
<povik> not sure if it will apply cleanly on current kernel
<derzahl> ok, will give it one more go
<derzahl> just this patch and then leave line 1102 of smp.c as is?
bisko has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
LinuxM1 has joined #asahi
<povik> it does its own change to cpus_are_stuck_in_kernel
<povik> so yes, leave it as is
<derzahl> ok cool. didnt apply completely clean but I think I was able to manually add in the rejected part
