<u154ss> @cy8aer XFCE (4.18) does indeed not have wayland support yet. I will try and install a wayland-ready DE on Debian to narrow things down.
<u154ss> The above combination (Debian Testing/XFCE 4.18) works perfectly on my M1 Mini.

<u154ss> What a surprise.. on the M2 Mini running Debian testing (Bookworm), in Xorg.0.log, I am seeing "unw_get_proc_info failed no unwind info found -10" libunwind problems again?
jacksonchen666 has joined #asahi-alt
<u154ss> I wonder whether Glanzmann's patch/build script from December 2022 is necessary? Why does libunwind8 1.6.2-3 work on the M1 Mini and not on the M2 Mini - Glanzmann/cy8aer?
<cy8aer> u154ss: Sorry to say - I never worked with X on asahi. But I can say that my mesa stuff is compiled with libunwined=disabled: https://git.g3la.de/repos/m1-debian/src/commit/5c112e25f2eff5b76830ffd277006d5c45c7100c/mesa-debian/rules#L178
<cy8aer> But that is the configuration set of @Glanzmann. I did non change anything there.
<cy8aer> libunwind=disabled (typo)
<cy8aer> And - as I just checked: this was never changed. It is disabled since beginning of the mesa packaging.
<u154ss> Thanks cy8aer. I have XFCE (4.18) and Debian (Kernel 6.6) with X running perfectly on my M1 Mini. I wanted to do the same with the M2 Mini, alas, things are not quite so straightforward as I thought. Scratches head..
<cy8aer> Yep I am confused there too. Maybe @Glanzmann: has an Idea or someone else?
<u154ss> One can hope... hoffnung stirbt zuletzt..
<cy8aer> I do not know if this depends on the X<->Wayland discussions last year.
<u154ss> I do not think so. The M1 works, why not the M2? Same software config., same installation procedure.
<cy8aer> agree
<u154ss> dpkg -l | grep libunw libunwind8:arm64 1.6.2-3 The same on both (M1, M2) machines.
<cy8aer> yep, latest in testing and unstable
<u154ss> Wait and see if someone else has a bright idea. No other choice..
<u154ss> I installed Fedora 39 on the M2 yesterday and that works. I am not a fan of Fedora or KDE (too top-heavy) however. I would prefer to stick with Debian.

<leio> u154ss: isn't the libunwind thing just meaning it couldn't get a better backtrace on an unrelated crash?
<u154ss> Not sure, we hade these problems lat year and it was solved by 16k page toleration as far as I remember.
<u154ss> lat = last

<sven> I think it’s just that unwind can’t get a better backtrack like leio said
<sven> *backtrace
<sven> maybe upload the full log somewhere
<u154ss> @sven which log? Of course, I have the Xorg.0.log.

<u154ss> Xorg.0.log - https://paste.debian.net/1303998/ Not much here except the error message.
<u154ss> More to follow.

<sven> looks like it’s crashing in OsLookupColor
<sven> very much doesn’t look like an issue with libunwind

<RoundDuckKira> when making a distro port to asahi, what else besides a kernel that I'd have to configure and set up for Asahi for a fully working desktop with GPU drivers
<mps> RoundDuckKira: mesa-asahi
<mps> but there are more software for sound
<RoundDuckKira> yea
<mps> and base things, m1n1 + u-boot
<RoundDuckKira> the latter I don't need to do because I want to go the .iso route of creating this Void Asahi thing
<RoundDuckKira> at least initally
<RoundDuckKira> Void needs an ARM iso anyways come to think about it
