the asahi-dev repo has fixed packages and will be released in the coming days
<marcan>
s/asahi/asahi-dev/ in /etc/pacman.conf to get it
<marcan>
the dev installer is at `curl -L https://alx.sh/dev | sh` and should support Mac Studio
<marcan>
and in expert mode, M2 (with some issues; trackpad may not work on first/some boots, just shut down with a power button tap and try again)
<marcan>
(also no keyboard in the bootloaders yet)
<marcan>
I would appreciate testing
<marcan>
oh, also, bluetooth
<marcan>
if you switch to asahi-dev and just pacman update, bluetooth should Just Work (if you have the desktop install, which is set up to pull the packages; otherwise as usual install the required packages yourself)

well working in the sense that the driver loads but it fails to probe

how does it fail?

theres no error other than it fails to probe with error -2, the modules stay loaded but userspace cant see it. i only nuked and ran the asahi insatller again late last week so i think i have the firmware
<sven>
you probably don't
<sven>
-2 is ENOENT
<sven>
and it should complain anyway
<chadmed>
hm ill extract the firmware again then
<sven>
i'd rather take a closer look for error messages in dmesg
<sven>
ENOENT should only happen when OTP reading fails or when no firmware is found and in both cases it'll complain
<chadmed>
oh yeah here we go, no brcm,taurus-cal-blob property

Hi all, I'm new to Ashai and also IRC in general (in recent times at least), so I hope this isn't inappropriate use - is it known that Kmail doesn't show the message body? It appears to be some kind of rendering issue (the terminal output shows lots of "WebEngine render process crashed" errors), so I'm guessing perhaps it's known and expected at this early stage?

m1n1 can run macOS right? If that's true then you can use m1n1 to figure out how macOS internals work?
<ar>
tsujp: that's what the developers here sometimes do
<ar>
tsujp: you can even see it happen on some of the streams by l*na and m*rcan (trying to avoid unnecessary highlights)
<tsujp>
I'm in a strange spot.. I tore down my non-mac machine so I am left with a laptop and a mac mini. I'd like to boot macOS via m1n1 (on the mac mini) and look at what it is doing from my macOS laptop
<tsujp>
yeah I saw l*na's recent stream here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZvYPepwed4 where she mentioned m1n1 does full passthrough so it wont use fake GPU drivers etc which is really cool
<tsujp>
Very nice. I know what my weekend project is

I'm having so much fun trying different installations that I've hit this issue from the website: "If you perform more than a couple installations and removals, you might find that some parts of the install process take longer than usual. This is caused by stale Boot Policy files being left behind. We have a script that you can use to clean those
<BlueIn2Red>
up. Use with caution; you need to run it from recoveryOS or with SIP disabled." Does anybody know the details of how to do the last part please?

r.e. clover[m]'s issue: i looked at the btmon log and devices do show up there, they're all bluetooth LE afaict though. this sounds like a userspace problem to me, and i'm not very familiar with the bluetooth stack there
<povik>
derzahl: hmm. two ideas: something in alsamixer is set wrong (i will look at screenshots if you send me one), or some other userspace update unrelated to kernel broke it
<povik>
i am only suggesting the latter because i saw another report similar to yours (or was it yours too? not sure)
BlueIn2Red has joined #asahi
<BlueIn2Red>
I have (perhaps) similar issues with Bluetooth - some devices (like my Samsung TV, uselessly) show up, the ones I actually want to use (two different mice) don't. This is with the dev build installed via the script linked above.
<clover[m]>
BlueIn2Red: thanks for confirming, i was wondering if simply updating the pacman.conf wasn't enough to get all of the right bluetooth bits and a re-run of the installer script was required
BlueIn2Red has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<marcan>
there is no difference between reinstalling and not
<sven>
yeah, this either LE userspace fail or some magic incantation is required to make the controller actually support LE
<sven>
I’m leaning a bit towards userspace fail and not just because it’s not my fault then: I can see LE events in btmon
<clover[m]>
another data point: Logitech Mouse device is found and pairs perfectly with a USB "Plugable" BT/BLE adapter
<sven>
hrm, or maybe these BLE events just have a weird format in this controller
<sven>
but dunno
<sven>
I don't have any BLE devices here so can't really debug that :/
babble has joined #asahi
<jannau>
sven: could be a combined controller user space problem. I get 'LE Advertising Report (0x02)' for the mouse with my intel bt adapter but 'LE Extended Advertising Report (0x0d)' with the broadcom one
<sven>
can you paste both reports somewhere?
<sven>
i hope Apple/Broadcom didn't decide to re-invent the advertising report format for some reason
<dottedmag>
Looks like a new feature in Bluetooth 5.0

did they just mess up and put garbage in the upper half?
<dottedmag>
Suspiciously it's the same as "event type" in both events.
<dottedmag>
Or is it just the same field shown twice by btmon?
Catyre has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]

jannau: so... uh.... can you put a evt_type &= 0xff; into ext_evt_type_to_legacy after the very first if where it checks for legacy events in net/bluetooth/hci_event.c? :D :D
