marcan: Turned out that the oops was trigger by unloading and reloading the brcmfmac module. I now changed my code so that it blacklists the module and only loads the module once the firmware is available. And does not reload module when the firmware is updated, but only updates the firmware. https://tg.st/u/0001-be-less-aggrassive-on-the-wifi-driver-it-is-fragile.patch
Soni has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Glanzmann>
In the old days it worked but with the more recent kernel version it no longer does.
<marcan>
Glanzmann: reloading the module is untested... not surprised it's broken, but I also don't know why you would do that
<marcan>
the entire point of the documented firmware procedure is that you do *not* need to play those games
<marcan>
I'll put it on my back burner to look at that, but unloading lots of modules is broken anyway so it's not high priority

I just assumed something was breaking the host controller entirely (or maybe it doesn't like the wifi side suspending)

I'm a Linux-noob but would like to test the new GPU update.. I've got SuperTuxKart arm64 working great, are there any other easy to run arm64 games that I can test
<bcrumb>
i suppose there is no arm64 DF build?
<bcrumb>
or something easily compiles to it
<Andytizer>
I don't think there's an arm64 Dwarf Fortress build
<Andytizer>
Is there something easily installable eg Xonotic, Quake etc. I'm finding it hard to figure out what commands to type to get the arm64 builds :D

hello, I'm new to asahi and installed it a long time ago, and today I wanted to boot into it so I did, and of course it doesn't boot due to something I was unaware of (the boot/firmware issues of an upgraded macos). I see how to fix it now ,but I can't seem to get back into macos. any pointers?
<Madondo>
because for some reason the holding the option key on my macbook pro m1 (first model) wasn't working, I selected asahi in system preferences, and booted. now it attempts to just boot that.
<waldi>
Madondo: you need to hold the power on key until the firmware tells you it is going to show you the options
<Madondo>
thanks waldi, that worked!
<Madondo>
much appreciated
<Madondo>
what's the recommended way to fix the boot issue once I'm back on macos? I tried to run the asahi installer again, success booted into asahi, and no change, it won't boot. I tried to follow the instructions found here https://github.com/AsahiLinux/asahi-installer/issues/100#issuecomment-1162376171 but the files referenced in the fix are gone
<Madondo>
ok, fixed that with the instructions, and the updated files

<_jannau_>
robher: marcan discovered today that the cpufreq driver leaves the CPUs in a random p-state at suspend and leaves them alone while suspended

already fixed but not pushed

<_jannau_>
I tested asahi-wip during the stream and it still looks ok
<marcan>
_jannau_: yeah, way too dark and oversaturated
<marcan>
that's sddm (x11, looks fine) followed by kde/wayland
mofux has joined #asahi
<_jannau_>
yes, that sounds exactly like the issue I've seen. should be fixed by commenting XRGB2101010 and ARGB2101010 from the supported color formats
<mofux>
sorry to ask again (last time, i promise!). is there a way yet to change the display resolution of the internal m1 air display yet? i'm using linux-edge and mesa-edge... thx!
<bcrumb>
mofux: is this because of icon sizes? in KDE you can set the scale to something like 150% if it's about that
<bcrumb>
for anyone reading i also recommend larger fonts
<bcrumb>
14-14-13-14-14-14-14 looks nice
<marcan>
mofux: the display has one resolution, it will never have more
<marcan>
it is up to your desktop environment/compositor to give you display scaling optiosn
<marcan>
*options
<mofux>
bcrumb: I'm running GNOME. I just thought the whole experience might be smoother when running a lower resolution :)
<bcrumb>
mofux: that should have scale settings too probably...
<mofux>
yes, fractional scaling is available and works, but i guess that's not really what i want. i want it to render 1280x800 instead of 2560x1600 (no retina resolution)
<marcan>
_jannau_: yeah, works fine in 8bit mode
<mofux>
currently it's set to 200% scaling. when i do 100% scaling everything just gets very small because it will still render in that native resolution :)
<marcan>
mofux: that would have to be a feature of the gnome compositor (directly setting scaled output modes at the display controller)
<marcan>
the driver supports it just fine
<marcan>
but I'm not sure if any compositors do because nobody wants blurry screens
<marcan>
nothing to do with us ;)
<mofux>
marcan: thx for that info! keep up the great work everyone, i'm really enjoying following this project.
