<Bandicoot> Hello everyone, am having a problem with Pacman:
<Bandicoot> > error: failed retrieving file 'community.db' from mirror.archlinuxarm.org : Failed to connect to gr.mirror.archlinuxarm.org port 80 after 25 ms: Couldn't connect to server
<Bandicoot> > error: failed retrieving file 'alarm.db' from mirror.archlinuxarm.org : Failed to connect to gr.mirror.archlinuxarm.org port 80 after 23 ms: Couldn't connect to server
<Bandicoot> Tried other servers, same thing but with other files. Is something being updated at the moment?
<j`ey> I tried to visit mirror.archlinuxarm.org and it says the CERT is out of date, so that is probably the problem?
<Bandicoot> You're right j`ey , it says "The connection to hu.mirror.archlinuxarm.org is not secure" for me as well
<j`ey> Im asking on #archlinuxarm

<Bandicoot> j`ey , I've joined that channel as well rn, were there any updates in the meantime?
<j`ey> nope
<Bandicoot> Thanks, hoping they will update eventually
<j`ey> current solution is to just wait a bit and hope it gets fixed. asahi is only using those packages, there isnt anyone working with archlinuxarm directly really (apart from a few PKGBUILD fixes)

<kit_ty_kate> is there a known issue with macOS 13.1?
<kit_ty_kate> I’m unable to boot my asahilinux partition after upgrading (bootloop)
<kit_ty_kate> (the upgrade was from 13.0.1 to 13.1)
yumasi_ has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<_jannau_> most likely fixed by reinstalling the 1st stage m1n1. I think the installer's fix option should be able to handle that
<kit_ty_kate> yeah i’m currently trying it. The installer detected the faulty partition and offered to repair it
<_jannau_> it's a known issue that mac os updates sometimes break other os boot policies but it's unclear what exactly triggers it
<kit_ty_kate> success! It's all repaired now. Thanks!

<askz> Hello, I managed to enable the speaker in the devicetree, also to apply the good pipewire configuration. I still have no sound, pavucontrol shows that sound is emitted, but can't hear anything. (The speakers are working on OSX, tested multiple times back and forth, and yes, I'm aware that I could burn my speakers)
<askz> anyone here having some insights ?
<j`ey> askz: are you passing the macaudio.please_blow_up_my_speakers=1 ?
<askz> ahah nope.
<askz> j`ey: any useful tips then ?

<j`ey> pass that option!

<askz> j`ey: you mean in the boot cmdline right ?
<askz> or sysctl?
<askz> I can't find anything online regarding this option (i think it's logic tho :D)
<psykose> technically those are almost the same :p
<mps> askz: cmdline
<askz> I can confirm it's enabled then, but still nothing ;s
<askz> psykose: true :)
<mps> this option is not in docs by intention, it is risky
<askz> yes I know
<askz> the speakers are showing up in pavucontrol. but the only profiles I have are off or n/a (unplugged/unavailable)
<askz> I think I remember having Pro Audio before, but not anymore
<askz> the vumeters are showing activity but yeah, nothing.
<mps> try with alsamixer
eroux has joined #asahi
<askz> everything looks good in alsamixer
<askz> I think I have a profile missing
<askz> somehow
<askz> ok, it's actually snd_soc_macaudio.please_blow_up_my_speakers

<askz> with fdtput
<askz> set status to "enabled"
<jeffmr> thanks,
<mps> status "okay"
<jeffmr> not sure about the answer to your question unfortunately
<askz> also there is two dtb in two different location
<askz> i edited both, but they were different
<askz> which one should I use ?

<ShadowJonathan> heya, quick question wrt mac security in general; i've bought a mac from someone else, and they've wiped it before selling it to me, but does their machine admin status persist through that? or did my re-install re-assert that trust?
<ShadowJonathan> sorry to barge in here with this question suddenly, i couldn't find resources on it, and considering the question came up while reading the "Introduction to Apple Silicon" bit, i thought it would help to ask here
<tpw_rules> how did they "wipe" it? if they use the "erase all content and settings" function apple provides it will have done it properly
<ShadowJonathan> i'm pretty sure they did it via that method, what other methods are there?
<tpw_rules> i mean there's a lot of people for which dragging junk to the trash is "wiping" it
askz has quit [Quit: WeeChat 3.8]
<ShadowJonathan> fwiw, as well as i can remember, when i opened it up back at home, it seemed to go through the normal "hello" setup phase
<tpw_rules> then it sounds like they did that
jamespmorgan has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<ShadowJonathan> alright, thank you then :)
<ShadowJonathan> makes me confident i can install asahi in the future, were i ever to get tired of macos (again)
* vivithecanine waves at ShadowJonathan
<ShadowJonathan> owo
<ShadowJonathan> hewwo
<vivithecanine> You can also be extra sure by using idevicerestore, every bit of firmware is signed and verified
<vivithecanine> When you do a dfu restore
<vivithecanine> Is your machine enrolled in DEP?
<ShadowJonathan> yes, at one point i even got close to removing it to install a kernel module, but then i decided "ehhh nah"
<ShadowJonathan> and im not afraid of them installing something that now compromises my machine, i wanna know if i can use my user credentials to login into the recoveryOS, to then make changes, as is stated per the tutorial
<tpw_rules> yes
<tpw_rules> (modulo DEP, not sure how that works)
<vivithecanine> You're talking about SEP not DEP
<ShadowJonathan> ah yes
<ShadowJonathan> yeah sorry
<ShadowJonathan> brain borked and merged it with "general integrity protection" stuff

<ShadowJonathan> nah its still paired and locked to my account
<ShadowJonathan> now that i think about it, its kinda weird/interesting how apple hasnt tied the machine admin ownership credentials to apple ID or the likes
<ShadowJonathan> but have it be its own thing
balrog has joined #asahi
<ShadowJonathan> also, a random question, but does asahi have plans to use the SEP / Touch ID to provide certain TPM functionality?
<tpw_rules> pretty sure that is on the wishlist

<vivithecanine> Hey tpw_rules while you're here, is nixos-infecting possible on asahi or should I just blow things away and use your guide :P
<tpw_rules> never actually tried infecting. i can't think of a reason it wouldn't work so long as you add the m1 support stuff to your config
<tpw_rules> alternately just boot the install iso and reformat the root partition. there's no difference in the uefi environment between the uefi only install option and the full distros
<tpw_rules> you don't have to delete the partitions and re go through the macos stuff
<ShadowJonathan> reading the open OS ecosystem document is kinda magical, if apple keeps up their effectively-open approach to third-party OSes, their devices might become very loved from a security and quality standpoint by hackers
<ShadowJonathan> maybe its just too naive or wishful thinking, but i think that apple could really start something here, or if they have more nefarious intentions, such as the rumored M-series-powered datacenters, which they then can bootstrap from Asahi's efforts
jamespmorgan has joined #asahi
<ncl> that kind of already started, there's a couple blogposts around somewhere comparing personal platform security of m1 vs openpower, coreboot
<ncl> coreboot on a thinkpad*
<ShadowJonathan> i will always have a level of wariness to apple, but i can't help but be kind of surprised, relieved, and maybe suspicious at how much of an olive branch all of this
<ShadowJonathan> maybe they realised that alienating developers like this will poison their brand in the long term?
<ShadowJonathan> or well, not "like this"
<ShadowJonathan> but like how hostile apple has been for a long time against anyone who REs their products, or tries to load other OSes on it

<vivithecanine> The m1 laptops and desktops are open on purpose
<mps> I don't trust any manufacturer but I live and use things anyway
<ShadowJonathan> This, I'm happy that we have two generations of open apple chips, but I'm wary if that doesn't change on a dime
<j`ey> ShadowJonathan: all the intel macs have been open to linux too
<ShadowJonathan> The wiki alluded to "hidden checks", has that just not been the case with Intel macs, or has it been way in the past?
<mps> if I want to have clean OS install on mac I would use DFU restore
<j`ey> ShadowJonathan: link?
<ShadowJonathan> j`ey: https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki/Introduction-to-Apple-Silicon#design-goals, "There is no attempt to enforce actual usage of macOS (no evil checks or anything of that sort)"
<ShadowJonathan> from this im reading that it has happened in the past, and i vaguely remember apple being this petty at ~ some ~ point
<j`ey> not sure, that might be reading between the lines
<mps> (If I really need secure machine I would start with old 6502 CPU and other discrete elements and build it myself)

<waldi> mps: you mean https://monster6502.com/?
balrog has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<tpw_rules> there was a lot of casting of what apple did for the t2 macs as evil when in reality they just did not really care about linux
<mps> waldi: nice one though I would design my one (probably with rtx2000 cpu)
<mps> waldi: and I would use ready-made cpu but old one and not design my own
<sven> yeah, there was some FUD about “t2 prevents nvme access” when really all the Linux nvme driver needed was a quirk that apple didn’t write because they don’t care about Linux
