<joske> marcan: are you aware that the recent blog post doesn't render correctly on chrome (tested on macOS and linux)? It briefly shows the site but then shows a white page. Works on safari and firefox.
<marcan> joske: works on chrome here
<joske> weird, tested on 3 machines
<marcan> (well, chromium)
<joske> ah this is google chrome
<marcan> works on chrome on macos
<joske> huh
<joske> tested on 2 different macbooks and a linux laptop
<joske> disabled privacy badger and ublock origin, but still same
<ar> works in chromium 114.0.5735.198, firefox 115.0.2, and chrome 115.0.5762.4 on x86-64 linux,
<marcan> tested 3 versions (old one that was running, one update that was queued, and a forced update which brought me to 115.0.whatever)
<marcan> on an M1 Air on macOS
<joske> no idea why it fails for me then on 3 different machines
<stintel> joske: you're talking about https://asahilinux.org/2023/08/fedora-asahi-remix/ ? (just to make sure we are all testing the exact same URL)
<joske> yes
<stintel> works for me on chromium 114.0.5735.198 and firefox 116.0 on gentoo x86-64
<marcan> I think one other person reported what you see, but clearly it's not "all chrome"
<marcan> so there's something but we don't know what
<stintel> just closed/restarted chromium as I hadn't since installing last update, 115.0.5790.102 also works
<ar> browsers are weird and complicated. almost as if someone was trying to put an entire os in a desktop app ;)
<marcan> joske: anything on the console? any failed network requests?
<joske> ah let me try chromeOS :-D
<joske> no errors on console, no strange things in network
<stintel> if you have this on 3 machines, I'd think of a network issue indeed. or maybe DNS based adblocker?
<joske> Version 115.0.5790.114 (Official Build) (arm64)
<stintel> I've seen the weirdest things with that - running pihole maybe?
<joske> I do have ad blocker, but as plugin in the browser, nothing network wide on router or so
<marcan> go into dev tools, look at the "cdn.asahilinux.org/h" request. is it blocked or mangled in any way? is the response valid JSON?
<marcan> *.h
<joske> it gives a json response yes: ["https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36971867"]
<joske> hmm, doesn't look like json on second glance
<j`ey> wait, now im blocked because I click that link lol
<joske> same problem on chromeOS (for me)
<joske> the only plugins I have are ublock origin and privacy badger (but they are common on all my systems)
<ar> i have a lot of plugins in my firefox install, and none in chrome/chromium
<joske> huh on my work M2 MBP in my personal profile it doesn't work, but in my work profile it does render correctly (so it must be something chrome profile related)
<marcan> try disabling privacy badger
<marcan> j`ey: remove the entry from your history
<j`ey> yeah, jsut tried that and it worked :)
<joske> marcan: I already tried, it doesn't make a differnce (and the work profile also has both plugins)
<marcan> dunno what to tell you then, you'll have to debug it yourself, I can't do anything if I can't repro :/
<ChaosPrincess> oh, y'all went more obvious this time
<ChaosPrincess> i thought you just thrown a banner like last time and was not understanding why people were complaining
<joske> I'll keep searching a bit more
<marcan> ChaosPrincess: can't actually do that thanks to the referer block, they literally asked for this by removing that signal
<marcan> all we can do now is color tricks, nothing fancy like an actual banner that moves the content down

<sid-linux> the funny thing is that my system time was not out of sync AFAIK. Looking at /var/log/pacman, other logs and files, they have the correct times on them
<ChaosPrincess> wrong tz?
<sid-linux> There is a big jump from Aug 02 -> Aug 04
<sid-linux> tz could have been a possible explanation what explains the jump in 2 days?
<_jannau__> do you have macsmc-rtc log messages? is this with packaged kernels from asahi or fedora?
<sid-linux> this is log is for a single boot btw. `journalctl -b`

<_jannau__> that's too late. can you check whether the module is in the initrd? I'd guess it's not but it probably should be
Agua has joined #asahi
<sid-linux> I see macsmc.ko and macsmc-rtkit.so in initrd (/usr/lib/modules/6.3.0-asahi-13-1-edge-ARCH/kernel/drivers/platform/apple)
<sid-linux> *macsmc-rtkit.ko
<sid-linux> sorry wrong one
<sid-linux> yes. there is /usr/lib/modules/6.3.0-asahi-13-1-edge-ARCH/kernel/drivers/rtc/rtc-macsmc.ko
<sid-linux> the most puzzling thing for me _jannau__has been the fact that seeing entries in /var/log/pacman.log, other time stamps for other applications are all correct and i see a good distribution from Aug 02 - August 04. So it seems the rest of the system seemed to be getting the time correct but `journalctl -b` got it wrong

<marcan> sid-linux: the RTC came in late, that means the original time was probably BS
<marcan> it sounds like you had one BS time, then timesyncd constructed another BS time it thinks is less BS, then finally the RTC showed up and set the right time
<marcan> the Aug 2 time probably came from some early boot time thing / fallback stuff
<marcan> by then it was already Aug 4 so it's not like your files would have the wrong times
<sid-linux> but the funny thing is i have BS time in my journalctl -b -1 , journalctl -b -2 also
<marcan> then timesyncd had some kind of checkpoint with a later time and decided to roll forward, but still several seconds behind (presumably the time it took you to reboot)
<marcan> I mean that would happen on every boot if the RTC comes in late, no?
<sid-linux> yes -- good point. But here the BS time fixed itself. In journalctl -b -1 and journalctl -b -2 the fictional old time is never fixed
<marcan> not sure what happened there then
<marcan> unless those boots really *were* from two days ago?
<sid-linux> I have timestamps on my system for files that are August 3. Those timestamps make sense. But I'm not able to find a `journalctl -b X` where X=some integer I can see August 3 mention
<sid-linux> *where I can see
<marcan> that's weird, unless journals got lost due to hard reboots or something?
<marcan> I don't know how all this journald stuff works tbh :p
<sid-linux> journald entries getting lost could be a plausible explanation also. thanks for helping out ! wonder what happend...

<jeisom> I disabled it agian on July 12th
<jeisom> I know at the end of the day it doesn't really matter as the kernel has it's own way of maintaining time.

<PaulFertser> jeisom: odd story, Linux auto-syncs system clock to RTC by default every 11 minutes if NTP software reports proper sync. https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/kernel/time/ntp.c#L615 enabled by default: https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/drivers/rtc/Kconfig#L53 . And it's been this way for ages.

<PaulFertser> But you see the kernel code there, it should be auto-syncing the RTC device which is specified there by default.

<tarzeau> only half of them have internet access?
<tarzeau> the other half 1-10 years, and the last 10 years before death are not likely to contribute, so it's really much less
