Did anyone else notice that after updating macos to 13.5 on 14" MBP, touchpad is now clicking more silently in Asahi? Seems like the default click feedback strength in autonomous clicking mode changed in newer firmware? Or maybe iboot configures it according to the macos setting? I don't know but it's better now - it was too strong for me before
<blazra>
and quite loud in complete silence...

<mps>
hm, so click feedback is not mechanical?
<tpw_rules>
i mean it's mechanical in that there's a solenoid thing that causes it
<tpw_rules>
but no, a macbook with a dead battery will not click or push or anything on the trackpad. it's a bit eerie
<tpw_rules>
it just acts like a piece of glass
<mps>
hm, that could explain why I don't have feedback on old m1 mbp
<mps>
I thought it is mechanical problem
<tpw_rules>
you can configure the strength in macos. idk how that translates to asahi
<tpw_rules>
i don't think there is an "off" option though
<mps>
this m1 mbp survived washing so maybe some contacts in touchpad didn't recovered
<blazra>
so, I just rebooted a few times and it seems that the default is still the same, but it seems that macos configures the feedback strength also for the autonomous clicking and sometimes that setting persists across a reboot to asahi
<mps>
tpw_rules: thanks for explaining
<rosefromthedead>
"survived washing" <- like... with clothes??
<mps>
rosefromthedead: no, under the shower
<rosefromthedead>
wow
<rosefromthedead>
impressive
<mps>
I poured red wine over keyboard and washed it under shower
<mps>
in service people told it couldn't be repaired easy, expect replace all things except case
<mps>
but it recovered self after some time in dry and hot place
<mps>
now only touchoad doesn't have feedback and battery sometimes show capacoty with minus value

Hi! I'm having a lot of trouble getting back into my machine after I think I messed up some ssh setting. I can't use it via the GUI either. I think it is related to this github issue and I posted a bit more info there: https://github.com/AsahiLinux/linux/issues/156#issuecomment-1666517392 Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

cobypear: those error messages are harmless and not the problem
<jannau>
can you edit the kernel command line in grub? can you try appending nomodeset to the kernel command line
<jannau>
about your credentials at tty login, do they contain any chars which depend on the keyboard layout?
<jannau>
you can try for the login whether the keys produce the chars you expect
<cobypear>
jannau: hi, yes I will give that a try soon. After some tinkering I can confirm the only issue I am experiencing with Asahi is the desktop not loading and the tty thing. no chars dependent on keyboard layout, the username and password look correct to me but it's quite possible i'm doing something wrong. I recall logging in this way in the past when I had a similar issue.
<jannau>
don't be confused I wrote mostly the same into the github issue
<cobypear>
thanks so much for your help jannau!

You are still able to crash firefox with 6.4.0-6: With Google Earth. But but I'm pretty sure that's a different problem, than the constant crashes on kernels < 6.4.0-6.

Crash. I found that it crashed on slow motions once it crashed with switching to another tab. It is not very deterministic

You need some patience, just play around with it. Zoom in, rotate (shift mouse), zoom out and change place where the actions I did.

Yes, something like that happened for me too.

I´m currently developing a Vulkan application for primarily linux right now, and for reasons related to the hardware of the M1 pro´s gpu, I am trying it on macOS through moltenVK and, while it works well, I am curious about how it would perform if it was native and not running through the moltenVK translation layer. Is there a vulkan alpha driver I can experiment around with or will I have to wait for when th

there's a WIP vulkan driver that can render demos but it's not in a state to test random applications let alone benchmark them. no ETAs, it'll be done when it's done

and it fails most of the tests
