<jack> Update: I managed a workaround.
<jannau> jack: the easiest way is to use m1n1's hypervisor to get a serial terminal. copy m1n1/boot.bin from the ESP and note the ESP's PARTUUID. to trigger proxy mode rename m1n1/boot.bin temporarily (will have to be renamed back for normal booting)
<jannau> on a second computer follow the Preparation steps of https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki/Tethered-Boot-Setup-%28For-Developers%29
<jannau> then append the ESP part uuid to the copied boot.bin: `cat boot.bin <(echo -ne 'chosen.asahi,efi-system-partition=${PARTUUID}\n\0\0\0\0') > boot_esp.bin`
<jannau> and then run `./run_guest.py boot_esp.bin`. on /dev/m1n1-sec should be the system serial, access it with any serial terminal like picocom
<jannau> when you're done, rename m1n1/boot.bin back, can be done from linux

<joshtaylor> Hi sorry for this long winded question, not sure of the best place to ask. I've been using a Macbook Air m1 2020, and using Asahi and it's been great :). I love that it uses u-boot, so messing around and recovering off USBs etc is awesome <3. I've just upgraded to a 2023 14" MacBook Pro with a "Apple M2 Max" (T6020), and I can see by the wiki that this should be mostly supported (with some things still a WIP or a TBA, which is fine.
<joshtaylor> What I can't figure out is how to install it to test and submit patches (if required) etc, I have cloned the `asahi-installer`, and can get up to selecting an OS (UEFI environment only) to install, but get an error 'Your system firmware is too old.', as I believe it's not on the CDN. Do I need to build this? If I could get up to having a UEFI boot with u-boot, I could get myself up and running as I did with the m1 and custom
<joshtaylor> installing arch etc. I can see docs around uboot etc, but this assumes you've managed to get it to boot? Am I missing something? Is there documentation or steps around this? I'd be happy to document it once I figure it out.

<ChaosPrincess> system firmware too old probably means you should update macos
<joshtaylor> i have `ventura 13.5 (22G74)`. this is also using the git repo of asahi-installer. sorry if this is the wrong place to ask
<ChaosPrincess> yea, then you should patch the installer to let you do it
<joshtaylor> cool, will have a play. cheers.

<jannau> android source code is aosp? I would be surprised if if the prebuilt toolchain would be available for anything but x86_64 and https://android.googlesource.com/toolchain/llvm_android/+/master/README.md seems to confirm that
<ChaosPrincess> doesnt rosetta work for macos
<jeisom> Are you talking android-studio? A user on aur commented that is can be run on aarch64 by replacing jbr and fsnotifier like used in the intellij idea aur package

<jack> jannau: thanks for the response earlier, that is very helpful. The workaround I found was that fedora remix enables ssh by default (yay!) but it has PermitRootLogin set to prohibited. Since there is only one user (root) on fedora remix, I managed to reconfigure this file by booting back into macos and using a qemu VM that mounted /dev/disk0s6 (fedora partition) with a fedora live ISO, and then I could modify sshd_config. From there a reboot was all that was n

<spuos> ChaosPrincess, sounds about par for the course, there have been a lot interesting projects being built of Fedora recently. Do you know what that will mean for the future of alarm?
<ChaosPrincess> if you want to run the desktop version, prepare to sell your soul to redhat, since iirc that will be discontinued and replaced with fedora, minimal version will stay as is
